Description
I've just completed this artwork which was commissioned by Spiral for their 2008 calendar cover. The Grim Reaper is a great subject to paint
I chose an angle that looks up at the figure to emphasis the power and menace of the character.

Fantastic image! You've conveyed the menace very well, despite the fact that I got a little giggle - his face reminds me a little of He-Man's nemesis, Skeletor. The detail of the image is just wonderful.

I'm loving the detail in this. I love the designs of the scythe and hourglass.
The pose is really well chosen, it certainly makes the character more intimidating. I like how his eyes aren't completely black/empty but actually have 2 tiny glowing(?) dots that look down on you. It's a small, but very nice detail.
A definate fave.

Good afternoon from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well.
Extremely great take on my alter ego you have here!!! He looks as though he can't wait to get back to "work". It's as if you had him for a few sittings whilst getting his "portrait" done. Wonderfully ragged cloak and great shading on his bones. The old cathedral adds a wonderfully eerie touch to this piece.
I attend a convention every year as the Grim Reaper. I never knew he could look so good!!!!

Brilliant angle, very different from what people I've seen to normally portray Death.. Jus reading through the comments, and come to think of it, there certainly is a Pratchett touch! Since you're such a big fan, was just wondering if you considered making Death trying out an alternative career, as suggested in the book Mort?
I'm hooked on the scythe, though! Great to finally see a scythe that isn't just a simple blade on a stick!
