The Réduit. An icon of Swiss culture that is as Swiss as Swiss chocolate, Swiss cheese, and Swiss Army knives. The Swiss always prided themselves on their unique capability to defend their homeland, and the Réduit served as a deterrent to foreign invaders from the Nazis to the Soviets. But as the world advances, the enemies of Switzerland advance as well. Surrounded on all sides by the Elysian Union, a "neodemocratic" regime run by the Directory, an all-powerful cabal of bureaucrats who are committed to "defending democracy" by ruling as undemocratically as possible, it was necessary for Switzerland to upgrade the Réduit so it can take on the threats of the 21st Century. Thankfully, Switzerland was now part of the United Nations, a federation of free nations who is committed to actually defending democracy, and thus had the money to achieve this project.

After years of construction and preparation, the new and improved Réduit was completed on February 14, 2033, just in time for Valentine's Day. Inside the Réduit were numerous missile silos, air defenses, military bases, and even underground bunkers that can fit the entirety of the Swiss population, all hidden in plain sight. Outside the Réduit's borders, everything was littered with 15-KT atomic demolition munitions, and Samson devices—biological weapons that can be activated to blow anthrax spores miles into the sky in case of an attack. If anthrax and nuclear annihilation weren't enough to stop our potential invaders, they will also be welcomed by several unmanned combat ground vehicles and aircraft controlled from bunkers in the Réduit, who will shower them with housewarming gifts of .50 BMG rounds, M829s, AIM-260 JATMs, and AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, turning those pesky invaders into useful fertilizer for Swiss farmers. This all served to deter the Elysian Union from attacking Switzerland and the United Nations as a whole.

Fortunately, the Réduit would never be used in anger. For on March 3, 2033, the Elysian Union was at war, not with the United Nations, but with the Federation of Eurasian Eternal Republics and the People's Republic of Dàtóng.
