The significance of this object has REALLY been pointed out in recent years. This is a wonderful wide angle view of this object. The extent of the outer nebulosity is a glowing (no pun intended) part of this image. All too often we tend to focus on the main or flashy part of an object. (I am guilty of this myself) This image goes beyond that gives the viewer a glimpse of the entire object. The focus of this image is dead on and the colors REALLY pop! A trained eye of over 30 years of observing can detect loads of minor details in this image that are lacking in others. Small dark clouds, color variations and structure. The contrast of the star colors also adds a dimension to this image that gives it a 3-D feel. All in all this image rates up there with the best I have seen of this area. Very well done!

Very nice. Can a camera lens actually contribute to the quality and scale of viewing through a telescope? - almost like a large eyepiece? Was this taken with your own telescope?

Thanks alot! Yes this image was taken using my own telescope.

I do not know of any company that produces an adapter to attach a DSLR camera lens to the telescope. There are some made for point and shoot digital cameras though. You can get an eyepiece adapter for your DSLR so you can image through an eyepiece(Eyepiece Projection Method).

Yes...but what i mean is that when one adds a camera into the equation, does it not create more magnification in total? I have seem some people build custom camera eyepiece holders...But what I'm wondering is whether a normal eyepiece create less power in the telescope, than when a camera is also attached....basically like a super large eyepiece

Like I said I do not believe that anyone makes something to mate a DSLR and its lens to a telescope. If you could it would definately increase the focal length and thus the Power of the system.
My camera is not a full frame(35mm equivalent). I shoot prime focus and my main imaging scope has a 1000mm focal length, you then multiply by 1.6 to get the total focal length of the system. So my scope/camera combination has an effective focal length of 1600mm.

Where is the CCCA Observatory?

The CCCA is our clubs dark sky site in Southern Ontario, Canada.

Ah, Canada eh?
But Club Dark Sky in Southern Ontario Canada doesn't turn into CCCA

Lovely shot

CCCA actually stands for...Chippawa Creek Conservation Area. The conservation authority leases us the land our observatories are on.

Good job.

I am going to try a number of these images myself next dark moon. I am thinking a 6 inch F/6. All my 8-inch scopes are long focal lengths. 8 - F/10.

Thanks Rikk
That should work nice. My friend shot M-17 the same night with a 6" schmidt @ F/6.3. Shot turned out sweet, nice image scale. 24 x 4min exposures.
Can't wait to see what you come up with.
