Description I felt like painting one day, so I splattered various colors on some watercolor paper, hoping that I could outline some shape I saw in them and turn it into a composition. This did not work out, as I am no divination master, and even though I love doing Rorschach tests, it's so much harder when you have a puddle of what looks like unicorn vomit splattered on a page in front of you...
So I drew a fish and shaded him with india ink. And then... MORE INDIA INK! YAY! After that, I glued down the fish.

So many colors! Even with india ink over top of it and the fact that my scanner washed out all of the color, it doesn't look poopy this time. I'm not sure I like all the color, but the splatters make me compulsively like it. So yeah, here you go. Happy fish. c:

It's a bit like the fish esacped from a dark, black pool and ended up in a world full of color.. (a world full of unicorn vomit xD like getting from the frying-pan into the fire)

That splatter technique is awesome
...but how do you manage not to er.. splatter yourself? O.o

Lol, I'm not sure which world I would like better, honestly. A balance would be nice I suppose... random darkness rainbows. That'd be ballin'.

Thanks, glad you like the splatters! I do tend to get them all over myself and the surrounding area, though... and mom has made me scrub india ink off the tile so many times... but somehow my clothes never get stained. *shrugs*

I don't really have anything decent to say, besides saying I really fucking love this. The colors, the splatters, the feesh.

OMG I love it. Spattering is definitely my favorite painting effect, and you do it so well! ^_^
(if you painted a butterfly like this, I would fall in love with you)

Haha, thanks. Glad you like it!

Actually, I was thinking of doing a series of insect pics like this. The next one would be a praying mantis... but it kinda seems inevitable that a butterfly would come up. That said, we can't have that "falling in love" thing happen. One Ashley is more than enough, lol.

you're welcome.
Ack, sorry, I know that was probably an awkward thing for me to say...I was having an "Ashley" moment. LMAO But anyway, I really do love butterflies. A lot. I look forward to it!

Heh, you know you can't have enough Ashley.

Lol, right. I'll keep that in mind, and maybe someday that butterfly will turn up.

You do need more practice in your divination, young one.

I know, but that was fairly easy to predict. Of course the Oracle would scrutinize your lack of divination skills.

I really like, all the cool colors in the background along with the happy little pheesh floating at the top.

inkloose In reply to Ballister [2009-07-08 02:02:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! All the background colors kinda got annihilated by the india ink splatters though. I found a pic I took on my camera from when I finished the background part, and it was so bright my eyes hurt. The combined evil deeds of the india ink and my scanner were able to keep the bright colors at bay once more... >.>;

Thank you. I was kinda worried about the composition being so... centered. Glad it works~

AeresVistaas In reply to inkloose [2009-07-07 17:37:54 +0000 UTC]

the distance between the figure and the black splash add enough of an asymmetrical element for it to not seem "overly centered"...even so I don't think that'd be a problem...but as it is, it works fine. Looks like a real image of a "real" place

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

inkloose In reply to AeresVistaas [2009-07-08 01:51:51 +0000 UTC]

Mmm, that makes sense. I think that since there's an underlying cyclical flow, it makes the centered focal point seem much less static. Cool beans. c:

movement always carries through beyond the boundaries of the canvas...any work of art that's not entirely abstract always serves as a sort of snap shot of a greater realm

Nicely put. I think this "window" can be applied to some abstract work as well.
