And now the reaction to Chapter 409.....Basically, old!Zangetsu will always be my Zangetsu, the same way the Second Doctor will always be my Doctor. But this new guy is awesome anyway!
..Pencil, about an hour, egad his HAIR and that eye took me forever. *still needs to recalibrate scanner and probably in fact get a new computer*

Well, he does deny being "just" Zangetsu; instead, he's Tensa Zangetsu. So I suppose if Ichigo went back without his bankai on, the old man would be there.

Yeah, I'm torn between "nooooo bring the old guy back" and "uh, am I allowed to be finding this version kind of, um, awesome?" There are times when he's eerily like the old man. I'm actually pretty happy with the chapter.

I kinda suspect he's so angry because he's had to watch Ichigo getting more and more depressed and injured and Hollowfied ("When you're sad, the rain comes down... if you trust me, I won't let any rain fall here," but then we find out Ichigo's never even tried to have a normal conversation with him and look what happened) and wants to make him stop and get a grip before it goes any further -- not to destroy himself in the process of saving his friends. It's always been his way to teach Ichigo a lesson by making him fight.~
But yeah, old Zangetsu is moar awesomer by a lot.~~~
Ah well. We'll only find out his motivations as the chapters progress, but I really think that's what's going on.

Maybe, but I don't like it when they beat someone up to get a point across. lol The poor kid has never had any 'real' training as far as communicating with Zangetsu before either. So many people forget he's only 15. But I hope you're right, that this is just some sort of test by the REAL Zangetsu.

..I just noticed Tensa smiled when Ichigo realized he was able to breathe. And then Ichigo was all "who the heck are you supposed to be!??" and the smile dropped right off. EPIC SADFACE.

...That bit where he says 'What you want to protect, and what I want to protect, are two different things':- I woulda thought that cause Ichigo is Zanners' only concern (therefore, the one he must protect), by unleashing final getsuga tenshou, he is extending what Zanngetsu has to protect (?).
I dunno. I do know that what Zangetsu wants to protect is Ichigo

I'm suspecting that either the final GT is dangerous for the wielder, or Zangetsu fears that if all this depression/flooding goes on, Ichigo will be consumed by the Hollow if he doesn't knock some sense into him before letting him go back into battle. But yeah, agreeing that he's only got one priority here.~

Now that I think about it, the potential lethality of the final GT contradicts Zanners' goal (protect Ichigo), and so to protect his master, he will refuse to teach him it- UNLESS Ichigo proves to him he is strong enopugh to handle it.
Sounds better everytime I say that to myself.

Wellll, technically Zangetsu's also only fifteen, and hasn't had the benefit of an official teacher either... though he probably listened to Urahara and Yoruichi more attentively than Ichigo did. XD But yeah, I think it's ultimately intended to knock Ichigo out of the defeated attitude he's had since the Ulquiorra fight.
