OK I totally just shared this on the Supernatural Memes FB page. He looks just like "Demon" Sam Winchester! I wonder if the other SPN fans will agree. If you suddenly get more traffic on your page here, that's why. :-P

Very nicely done. You have some great looking lux materials. Considering this is your first Lux render that has made it to completion I think you have done a spectacular job. Getting everything just the way you want it for Lux is a huge undertaking. If you're after softer shadows you will need to use mesh lights, or place mat translucent planes in front of your distant lights (bigger the mesh/plane softer the shadows).

The way light bounces around a scene in an unbiased render is just so cool and so hard to simulate in something like 3Delight. Hope to see more Lux from you in the future.

Thank you so much *happy dance*

I set up my latest render in Reality, and had it rendered quite far, but then realized it wasn't what I wanted, so went ahead and did layers in 3Delight. I wanted the punch of color/oversaturated lights. I did however, fix the shadow problem. I put a plane opposite the scene, and bounced a spotlight off of it, and that got rid of that weird pure black shadow thing. The scene was actually looking really good, so I may go ahead and post it anyway, it's just not what I wanted.

I will definitely be doing more Lux, I just need to think of a scene to build specifically for it.

Yep, bouncing lights does basically the same thing as putting a translucent plane in front of it - makes soft shadows. The only problem with bouncing around indirect lights that are important for lighting the scene is that it makes it harder for Lux to find the light path so may render slower and with more noise (I think).

lol, nothing quite as nice as latex bwahahahaha!! erm... yeah *cough* I'm working on more stuff with this render engine, but I need to go through some tutorials, as the lighting not always cooperating. Right now it's hit or miss, lol

Thank you so much dear!!! *whew* this one was actually luck, LOL I'm still trying to figure out this new system as I have a line of failures following. Well, at least it's a line of crap I'm not happy with *sigh*

Whow, this is excellent, Incy ! If this is your first render, It seems that the next ones will be perfect !!!

Thank you so much, such a nice thing to hear coming from you !

unfortunately, I have not been able to duplicate the success yet, and am going to watch a few tutorials. I haven't quite figured out how some of the lighting and textures work together, and since I am not a photographer, I know nothing about the camera/film settings. I do know, that once I figure it out though, that it can make some damn nice renders and I can even do some proper sci-fi stuff now that I can do LED lights and such.

First render with Reality / Lux? Wow... the only detail that disturbs me a little (but very few...) I find those trousers a little too much reflective in term of light intensity. I know that latex is reflective, I'm surprised here.
This is a detail, because the picture is splendid. And you've manage to avoid the granularity. Congrats!

IncyVortex In reply to Phyl-CGI [2013-04-27 06:22:17 +0000 UTC]

Thank you lol, I was actually going for super shiny on pants to see how it would come out, was doing the liquid latex look. I do need to turn down the spec just a tad though, that was using the "sexy shaders" latex ones in Daz. So weird to get used to. working on a second render now, well... I think I'm up to try number 6, still trying to get the materials and lights done right. Definitely takes some practice lol.

Phyl-CGI In reply to IncyVortex [2013-04-27 15:45:32 +0000 UTC]

For sure: every rendering engine needs some practice. I've problems with Lux: it does not always accept to recognize my video card...
But you've managed to get a fantastic result, for sure

Thank you so much!!!! Yeah, I'm loving the way this thing does reflections, I wasn't even expecting that at all. Especially that floor, in Daz it just renders as flat and dull.

whew, just need to figure out those weird shadows now, lol.
