You're so good at drawings like this. The realism with the abstract effect of drawing in negative space.
It's apparent that music inspired this; I don't know words to say how, but it just is. It's like an unwinding drawing. I love the emotion.

It was absolutely an unwinding drawing. I had a few different songs going, and I just needed to draw something simple and minimal to ease me down from the frustration of the overly detailed, overly shaded things I'd recently screwed up by putting too much into. This was... refreshingly clean. Eyes, suggestion of nose, brows, mouth, and then nothing but simple, suggestive shading to frame a face so they weren't just floating features.

I love unwinding drawings. I'm so excited to start doing them again once I reinstate art as one of my primary forms of expression. It's definitely getting there. Maybe someday my unwinding drawings will be as picturesque and as clear as yours.

My avatar? Ugh, that thing is soooo old. I need to make a new one! That one I made in...early 2009 ish...I think. I definitely need to start coloring again. I have big plans for coloring the stuff I'm putting up now. But one step at a time, as I have no means to color right yet because I don't have my desktop computer set up where I am. So for now, everybody gets to deal with sketches.

I can't help it; it obviously needs stroking!
If you were to change it, it would probably be so epic that dA would crash, and we would all blame you for the world ending. So it's probably better that it stays the way it is for now, until the world gets a little more mature and dA beefs up its backup system.

Reference like crazy. That's pretty much how I've learned. Referencing other people's art, photographs, yourself in the mirror.
