Just a quick doodle I did today of a deroboticized Shard. Well, mostly deroboticized. Still got that cannon arm, which I'm sure he's happy about.So of course in my headcanon Shard was only partially deroboticized and a bunch of his organs didn't form completely and the power gem in his chest is the only thing keeping him alive. Talk about most obvious weakspot ever amirite
Shard is the rebuilt version of the original Metal Sonic ala the Archie Comics, for those of you who don't know C: so naturally Shard (c) Archie, art (c) muah

Technically he's "Mecha Sonic" (gotta be careful, SEGA's getting on Archie's case for that).
But this is one of the better organic Shards I've seen

Ugh, they're getting so confusing with that. Mecha Sonic was originally the name they gave to the roboticized Sonic... I can't win, can I?

I think it's to distinguish Shard between the other Metal Sonics. Since Shard was (mistakenly) called "Mecha" Sonic when he first appeared in StH #25, that's what they rolled with. SEGA wants Metal Sonic to be a cold lifeless machine. So to keep Shard not like that, they call him a Mecha Sonic.
I know, it's weird. But anything to keep Shard around is okay in my book xD Damn bastard's my favorite character now. He's such a joy to read. Him and his snark

Yeah, Shard is great. Any character with that much snark is a win for me! I swear, I have a thing for Archie Sonic knock-offs. Shard, Scourge, Zonic the Zone Cop... I love 'em all haha

What's cool about Shard though is that he has a lot more depth than just a regular Sonic knockoff. I've heard him being classified as like a mix between Sonic and Shadow: Sonic's attitude and Shadow's insecurities. He does worry about being a killer robot in a city full of people and what they'll think of him. Normal things that people in his situation would think about.
That's why I like him. He's fun and believable. A guy who's trying to turn his life around but isn't sure if he can live a normal life. Yet he's still a great, fun character.

Oh, absolutely. That's what makes him so lovable! He's fun and he just has those moments where you want to hug him. A mix of Sonic and Shadow is a pretty good description!
