Description Olive the Olive python (I know, what an imaginative name ) from Alma Park Zoo. One of the most wonderful snakes I have ever had the chance to work with and such a beauty to look upon (well most of the time). I'll miss you big girl, hope your future treats you well.

In the wild these fantastic pythons are found across Northern Australia from QLD to WA, dwelling in rocky gorges, caves and hollow logs near sources of water. They can reach a maximum size of 4m and are the second largest snakes in Australia. They have been known to prey upon all sorts of things including adult wallabies and, most recently, adult crocodiles (you can find the pictures all over the internet). They are strong swimmers and have been known to take prey by striking from under the water.

Anyway, they are an impressive animal, and Olive was a truly lovely representative of the species.

Thank you. Reptiles are gorgeous. I wouldn't say often cute, although I do think that skinks in particular can be super cute. Just the way they act and look sometimes

Man, she's so pretty. The rainbow of colours is just beautiful! I really like how the red rock contrasts with the dark. Nice cropping too

Gorgeous snake, and a wonderful(albeit highly underrated) species. I've owned a large Olive myself, and can attest to their beauty and docile demeanor, but they do get really big!  Sadly, most snake breeders here in the US have tended to look down on this species due to its lack of a colorful pattern; I have heard people say things like, "what's to like? It's just a plain brown snake".

They are a fantastic species. I'm not sure if there is a high rate of ownership in Australia either, people tend to go for other, more colourful snakes over ones like this. Additionally the size does make them an issue for many owners. I myself would never have something this big in a private environment simply because I wouldn't (until I own my own house) be able to provide for it adequately.
In saying that though I do love these snakes, I love the look and the way they act (when they are properly trained) and this particular individual was just so nice and docile that she earned a place in my memories.

Such interesting color, and iridescent, glint, and great focus, too!

Thank you! She always did have a lovely iridescent sheen to her scales (well except when she was going through a shed), it gave her a very pretty appearance.
Glad you like it

You're welcome! Are any of the animals in your gallery yours?

Unfortunately not. All of the animals in my gallery are either animals that I have worked with or wild animals that I have come across in my travels/work. There are several animals in my gallery that I would love to have as pets but, alas, I do not yet (particularly the ridge tailed monitor).
