Stippled mugshot of E. regalis, one of the dinosaurs best known from skin impressions (Bell et. al. 2014). The "cock's comb" on the head has no bone support, and is a purely soft tissue crest. The large, raised oval clusters of scales on the neck are also based on actual skin impressions. So as Mesozoic dinosaurs go, E. regalis really doesn't need that much speculation to reconstruct.
