Description
After putting this costume on the back burner for years, I dressed as Balalaika from Black Lagoon, the fierce leader of the crime syndicate Hotel Moscow.I'm so happy to have gotten around to playing this supremely badass character!
All in all, this is one of the simplest costumes I've ever put together.Β I modified a single-breasted business to make it into a double breasted one, heightened the hem of the skirt, and made the scar out of latex.Β For the first time in 10 years, I also used my real hair for a costume, styled with care to fit the volume of the character.

Thank you very much! Β I smoke cigars on rare occasions, only a few times per year. Β I wouldn't advocate smoking other than on a rare basis! Β I'm using an e-cigar in this photo. Β It's wonderful, though, very realistic and tastes great!

Balalaika is actually a hard character to cosplay. It's not just scars, suits, and cigars. It takes a maturity and a bearing most have trouble with. They either look too cute or too lazy. Whereas here, you actually look like a Russian mobster queen. This is probably the most impressive Balalaika I've ever seen. The prosthetic may not be perfect but the poise and attitude makes up for it.

Thank you! Β With the photos, that's mainly what I was trying to go after. Β This was a simple outfit and I went for more of an indication when it came to the scar, but I was excited to get to put forth some of her dangerous charisma, at least!

Is good cosplay, but you don't quite have enough scaring. I mean, it's supposed to cover most of the right half of her face, and there is also some on her neck, and breast. So, a bit too pretty.

It is true that her scar is rather large. Β I had intended for mine to be more of an indication of a scar than an overwhelming one.

As I said, it's still good, but I personally think that, wen cosplaying, one should try their damnedest to look like was the character would in real life.

Well, again, I said what I think should be done. It was an opinion. Just as it is your opinion that all you need to do is have fun with it, it is mine that the point is to bring the character into this world, making it also a roleplaying experience. I, personally, would not be able to have fun with any cosplay I did unless the costume was as accurate to the characters design as possible, and I had the personallity and speach patterns of the character down pat. I would want those I conversed with to feel as though they were actually talking to that character.

MY! The look in her eyes. Beyond badass you betcha ..... the way the Syndicate leader casts her stare, i fully expect her cigar to spontaneously ignite should she happen to turn her head just enough for her look to bring the herb into the frame. Oh to know just who is turning slowly on a virtual spit while the Boss takes a moment of intense, insidious introspection. if thoughts could kill ......
