Try dividing values in two: a lit area and a dark area, and smudge the line between them, but not too much. Smooth gradiation occurs only on very smooth transition between planes. Just think of a cube and an sphere. Cube has no gradiation because it has very pointed edges, while a sphere is smooth so the value changes gradually. Your drawings (paintings?) seem to always have smooth shading regardless of the 3D shape they're supposed to represent so consider making more contrast. Colours here also clash together not very pleasantly, especially the eyes. Try making a colour scheme before starting paint. Just lay down some colours on background together and see which look well together and which don't. For lips try mixing pink with the skin colour you have to get a better looking effect.
