the very strong darks and lights are attention grabbing. Makes me wonder about narrative, e.g. is this guy standing next to a fire at night?

Oh my, this is very very beautiful!
You did a fantastic job with the lighting and shadows, and all the detailing of the face as well!
Very wonderful work here (:

Omg! I got the same model, and the lighting pattern is almost the same but flipped! Haha. I'll post mine later.
Anyway, I really like this. I think you handled the shadow side of his face really well. The paper tone really works with the use of the black charcoal. However, on the light side of his face I think you over used the white pastel. I hardly see any of the paper tone coming through to describe some dim direct light. It feels way too bright and overwhelming.
I love the way you handled his forehead wrinkles those things are hard to draw! Lastly, I think you should spend more time analyzing his eyes. I tend to notice in most of your life drawings that the eyes are too oval, and slightly big, which makes them look cartoon-y. Just spend more time practicing the eyes and you should get it!
Sorry for the long critique. I got excited to see someone do the same model outside of my class! Haha.
