Description Awoke this morning to find the sun shining and the site of patches of blue sky for the first time in roughly 3 weeks. So naturally within 20 minutes i had collected my camera gear along with my waterproofs as it had started to rain (surprise surprise) and head towards some fields on the quad bike. After a bit it stopped raining and finally was able to put down my umbrella and start shooting. To begin i tried to re-shoot my previous shot "all on my own" but with no luck as the sky was blank, so carried on walking.
After walking around for an hour or 2 taking quite a few shots as the lighting was perfect i began to head back to the quad bike but comming across this part of a field that was flooded by a tiny stream that had grow in the past field weeks of rain to a rather strong body of water. I took a few shots before the light went completely.

5 shot HDR image in photomatix
Photoshop for levels, curves, colour enhancement, crop and border.

I think that the contrast between the blue and green on the water looks very smooth and lovely.
The brown from the background is mixed perfectly.
A great show indeed!

Very nice photo. I find the dark grasses in the middle split the photo in to two. Both the top and bottom would work alone as single photos. Love the marsh though.

Cool work also on this one, sharpness in the distance is a tinge too low, but again... who cares. I love it.

Beautiful colours ! I reckon if you had a little bit more of the sky in the shot though it would be perfect ; especially if the blues betwen the sky and the water matched.

Lovely lighting.

Thanks Sam. The tone mapping of the HDR generation really boosted the colour saturation giving it the high contrast effect

Yeah I felt like taking off from work today too
Your 5 shot HDR is very effective. I don't know much about HDR but assume you took and then combine 5 shots each exposed to maximise the detail in the variously lit areas of the shot?

At the moment i have the luxury of not having a job, so taking photos kinda is my work

That's right about the HDR, it gives a lot more flexibility of what you can shoot under what would normally be hindering conditions. Its still tricky to get a good set of shots as generating to a HDR image can sometimes have bad results.

Thanks for the feedback
I'll have to give it a go ... do you need special software or will Photoshop be up to the job ?

iamgoatman In reply to Northline [2007-01-11 14:55:58 +0000 UTC]

Photoshop will do the job but doesn't have a tone mapping ability unless you download a plug-in. If you don't have use tone mapping the image will just look flat and boring. I use photomatix software as it tends to give better results and uses tone mapping, they also make the plug-in for photoshop which can be downloaded from their site.

It's lovely, I really like the color contrasts in the picture, great shot! Sounds like you have put down a lot of effort in it..

Thanks

Its about the same amount of effort I put into most my shots, if I didn't all id have to shoot would be my house. I think nothing of walking several miles in bad weather just for 1 shot, adds to the fun
