I had visited Namibia twice on holiday prior to starting photography and it never really impressed me that much. The thing that triggered a desire to photograph the country of dunes and grass was a photo in a book by Jean du Plessis. The photo was of a large old Acacia tree on a grass slope that gently descended into a low lying valley where the grass ended against red stone hills.

Almost two and half years later I was standing in front of that tree waiting for the sun to rise. Watching the transition of light and color in a crystal clear sky as an ocean of grass swayed to a warm morning breeze is my fondest memory of Namibia. I experienced on that morning what Jean's photo had communicated to me. Hopefully my image of this scene will communicate that same message to viewers.

I love the softness of the tone. It makes it standout from the usual glaring sunrise photos.

haha no it's the old 's' version with the fixed 90mm lens. It's an amazing toy, but film is just too expensive in South Africa. I've been trying to sell it but I struggle to get 1500 Euros for it here. Which is what I paid for it.

why would somebody shoot on film during these days anyway? the (post-processing) workflow it's pain in the arse and it's expensive too

You appreciate the photo ten times more because there went so much more effort into it. Shoot medium format film just for the learning experience before it gets completely inaccessible.

i know what you mean, however i'm quite happy when shooting digital and achieving some nice shots from time to time, shooting analog would probably rather discourage me from photography
during these day's it's hard to even find a single hour of just going out and shooting or doing some post-processing work which i'm so much behind... time for some conference break at work
