"You know, Gideon," she starts quietly, voice gentle as she watches Cain animatedly tell Brine a story with his hands. Brine, for his part, looks a little nervous. She can see him glance up at her from time to time, as if to reassure himself she's still there, before looking back to Cain with his brow furrowed in concentration. "Some people would give just about anything to have their family just... Pop back up out of the wood work."

Gideon opens his mouth. Liara can see it from the corner of her eye, and she shuts it down with an edge of hardness to her tone as she continues.

"It doesn’t happen every day, you know?" He knows. "You don't have to push everyone away. Some people are meant to be there. And Cain seems pretty determined, but..." Her gaze softens again as she looks directly at her old friend, who stubbornly avoids looking directly back at her. "You better be careful... Or you might actually convince him you don't want him around."
