How is egg tempura? Is that as awesome as some people say it is? Going from questions about the medium to the painting, I must say that realism - especially that of human beings and facial portraits - catches my attention the most. Your realism is top-notch, and for a self-portrait - wow. That's a lot of detail, and your rendering is so fantastic that I bet people will recognize you from first glance at this piece. This art also reminds me of the old master Caravaggio (one of my favorite Renaissance painters) with the chiaroscuro shading and heavy modeling. I love the gold effects, and the dark, limited palette.

Every once in a while I am reminded of what is so intriguing about being creative. In this day and age, when there is so little grace in the world, there arrives an inkling of what we as human beings can capture that is still pure. Your talent, sir, has been that reminder for me today. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for reminding me of the possibilities.

Beautiful portrait you have here. You definately have a skill. I wish I could paint like that. But I've never been good with oils. My most interesting pieces were probably on Hitler (no I'm not a neo nazi, it was a political statement, you can see my prep work for it here: [link] ), at the moment I'm focussing on my photography. But yeah, definately a great piece - c'est magnifique!
This piece has also emulated your typical Rennaisance piece rather well...There was another painter on here who did a simillar Rennaisance style portrait but it was of an alien in traditional English dress of the time. A little strange, but it worked well.

Wow this looks like something that you'd see in a musuem/rich person's mansion. Spectacular detail, esp on the gold clothing. It's nice to see something like this on here that took so much work and dedication to do instead of something that was slapped together in a hour. Yay for traditional art. I'm adding it to my favs.
