This one plays well too. From a distance it looks like a simplified face.

I can't even tell you how much I love this. She's there and she's not. You use the absence of paper as a design element so effectively.

It was a lucky accident. I had cut out her face to use on another collage, and the remnants fell on top of a page from a children's storybook about birds. And voila! It was perfect. There are advantages to messy chaos on your collage worktable!

Oh, that I agree to, messiness has it’s definite advantage when collaging … after all collage is taking various visual materials not normally associated with one another to make a comprehensive whole … a whole image that forms a single piece of art. So you’ve been just following the definition all along!

The pieces of paper in this collage were placed randomly over the woman’s face. I liked it too well to change it: [link]

And this one I happened to put the woman down on top of a random brightly colored clippings:[link]

It’s the beauty and fun of collage!

geesh. i love your work.
it's so original.
do you paint these images and then cut them and attach them?
i wouldn't have the guts to cut ANYthing i've painted.
i just know i'd screw it up somehow.
very well done.

Collage artists are fearless - you learn to enjoy cutting everything up!
But the basis for this was a Botticelli and an illustration from a children's storybook (not my own images), so it was not too traumatic.
