Remake de un doodle de hace ocho años, pero a color
Alguna vez se creyó que Thylacosmilus era un equivalente ecológico del tigre dientes de sable, y que se extinguió cuando Norteamérica y Sudamérica se unieron y Smilodon colonizó Sudamérica, empujando al metaterio a la extinción por no poder éste competir con la versión "superior".
Hoy no se cree ni que el Thylacosmilus haya sido un equivalente al dientes de sable, ni que se hayan encontrado; de hecho parece que el Thylacosmilus se extinguió antes de que Smilodon llegara a Sudamérica. Pero el concepto sigue siendo uno legendario en paleontología.

It was once believed that Thylacosmilus was the ecological equivalent to the sabertooth tiger, and that it went extinct when North and South America were joined, allowing for Smilodon to colonize South America and push the metatherian to extinction, the latter being unable to compete with the "superior" version.
Today, it is not believed that Thylacosmilus was a marsupial sabertooth tiger, ecologically speaking, nor that it ever met Smilodon; it seems to have went extinct before the cat arrived. But the concept remains legendary in paleontology.
