Description
It has always been a mystery as to the whereabouts of the Holy Garden of Eden. People can guess it was in Macedonia, present day Turkey, but no ones knows for sure. After the fall of Adam and Eve, a garden as spectacular as Eden surely can’t just up and disappear like that. The angel Michael is said to guard the garden with a gigantic flaming sword. So where did it go? Maybe it didn’t go anywhere, maybe it’s hidden here on Earth and only God knows where it is. People have tried for ages to find this lost oasis, almost as much as they have searched for the Holy Grail or the Ten Commandments. Our story takes place in the present day world. Two young men, fresh out of college with their PhD in Archeological Sciences, one American, the other pure Irish. Best friends from the start, and almost inseparable. Religious artifacts was their target and had been on plenty of digs accredited with finding things of importance, but never once was all their glory towards them. For once they wanted to know what it was like to change the archeological world forever, and maybe even the real world. Maybe they could change history, one day, closer than they thought. Maybe they could find the Treasure of Eden.
~**~
Damon Jefferson and Edward Helman were two young archeologists that longed to find the Garden of Eden. Through some ancient, probably fake, documents that the two had obtained, they believed that the garden still existed and inside lay the greatest treasure of God. “The treasure He loves most above all Man.” The document stated. The two never told anyone where they obtained these papers; they just claimed them to be the Second Gospel of Simon Peter. “Peter’s First Gospel,” Edward would explain, “was supposed to match all the other disciples Gospel’s.” Then he would turn and look to Damon. “But Peter knew more about Christ’s and God’s secrets than anyone else. So he wrote a second that he never intended to publish. He wanted to just kind of relieve his mind.” Then they would bring out their copies of the real document. “See? Here it talks about why God created Earth, all the secrets and deception around it. In this chapter Peter talks about the Wife of God, the real Wife. Lastly, we have the whereabouts of Eden, God’s Last Paradise.” Slight pause from both for a dramatic effect. “You may take the real things in for testing. They always carbon date to exactly the same month Simon Peter wrote his First Gospel.”
In the two years of struggling to find sponsors, they always used these lines. A few people felt bad and would donate small amounts of money to go into their research, but no one would ever fully fund them. That is, until they found Ms. Lorelei Beirsteich. A rich widow, who was still bringing in the money through stocks and old investments from when she was younger. When the two came to her she whole heartedly agreed. “I’m in my old age, and never seen a lot of excitement, maybe you two can bring that to me.” The two had agreed to reports whenever they found something. Ms. Lorelei fancied herself to be a descendant of a disciple, either Matthew of Peter, but the two men wrote it off as old age and never discussed it.
After a full year of funding, she took a more personal interest into their work and demanded bi-monthly reports. “This Hunt for Eden.” As she called it, “seems to have more and more promise, I want to be updated regularly so that I always know what is going on.”
Edward, with his platinum blonde hair and ocean green eyes, could always win the full attention of Ms. Lorelei, even if there was little to report. Most of the time, there was only little progress, but with Edward’s American charm she always enjoyed their meetings. Damon would then take over with the real report and would talk about what was going on. He was handsome of a different kind. Damon was dark to Edward’s light. Long chocolate Dark hair and deep hazel-brown eyes, Damon always had his small beard around the top of his lip and his chin. Edward was fast acting and light-hearted, Damon was calm, thinking, and serious. Two opposites perfectly make to be friends.
A year and a half went by from when Ms. Lorelei first endorsed them, to their first big hit coming in. The moment they received the letter that would change their life, both grown men stumbled over each other to get to the car. When they finally arrived, the two tumbled into Ms. Lorelei’s house, shouting and cheering. It was the middle of the night and Ms. Lorelei was already in her night-robe and had her tea. “Ms. Lorelei!” Edward shouted up the stairs, Damon was laughing and cheering behind him. Ms. Lorelei stuck her head out from her room and frowned.
“Mr. Jefferson and Mr. Helman! This is certainly one of the most outrageous meeting hours as of yet in my life.” she flustered and clutched her blue silken night robe. Edward dashed up the stairs, laughing merrily. “Dear Ms. Lorelei we are terribly sorry for the hour, but what we are about to tell you will certainly make up for any disturbance this evening.” He soothed with his Southern accent to the elderly British woman. Damon followed suit and kissed her hand, his thick Irish accent filled the room with dark lust and deep romanticism.
“My dear Ms. Lorelei, my companion and I are overjoyed to tell you that we have found a man with the second Gospel of Mark. A find that will most certainly lead us in the direction of Eden itself. No more guess work, we have it Ms. Lorelei.” The two men steered the elderly woman into her library at the bottom of her stairs and brought her a chair. She became calm and listened to the story of how someone had come to acquire it, and then put her own insight in. “This sounds wonderful and all but tell me why this is so wonderful?” She smiled, but her eyes were still confused. “Ms. Lorelei, for the price of 200,000 pounds you will be the owner of the exact directions and location to the Garden of Eden, plus the Treasure of God and the ownership of it.” Edward exclaimed and handed her the letter they had just received an hour before.
My friends,
I am writing in response to you letter a month ago about the Second Gospel’s. Daddy just purchased the true and authorized second gospel of Mark. He said he would sell it for 200,000 pounds and the permission to copy it. Waiting to hear back.
Alexandra Crieas
Ms. Lorelei examined the letter through her spectacles. “Are you sure this document she talks about is real?” she asked skeptically. Damon smiled, “Silus and Alexandra Crieas are the most prominent father-daughter team in the rare and ancient documents world. These two have never purchased a fake and this time would be no different.” Edward nodded, “My own mother would trust Silus with her life, and he has been a grandfather to me. Please Ms. Lorelei, this is it. This Gospel is exactly what we’ve been searching for.” Edward crouched down and took the elderly woman’s hand. Lorelei looked from man to man, and then smiled. “Alright, but I want to see it first. Tell your Mr. Crieas that he better copy it quickly, he has a buyer who wants her new property immediately.” She smiled and nodded. The two men were so overcome with excitement that even calm and collected Damon jumped up and down like a child at Christmas, hugging and laughing tears almost in his eyes.
Even though it was almost eleven at night all three drank Ms. Lorelei’s best wine. “We will call Alexandra tomorrow morning and tell her we are coming. The first tickets we can get, we’ll take them, and I’ll get online tonight.” Edward announced. Ms. Lorelei’s smile faded slightly. “Where exactly are Mr. Cries and his daughter?” Damon looked over at her brightly and in his exotic accent replied, “Egypt of course!” Now Ms. Lorelei’s smiled faded completely.
