Part 3

The next morning, Carrie led Martha to a mall where she wanted to meet some friends. They ran into the group, three girls and a boy, in the food court. Carrie introduced them to Martha: “This is Grace. Her family moved here from England, but she’s a really fine person.”
The first girl stepped forward. She had long, blonde hair and was wearing a green t-shirt and jeans.

“Hello Martha. Nice to meet you.” When Grace shook hands with Martha, sparks flew.

“Ouch, that’s strange.” Martha hold her hand.

"I'll say, that sort of thing happens when two different types of magic touch," said Grace.

"Interesting. I'm a genie. So what kind of magic user are you?" Martha replied.

"Witch" said Grace.

"I haven't met a witch yet." Martha explained.

"And I haven't met a genie before" said Grace, "so you a free genie or a slave?"

"Sadly, I'm a slave. I have to grant three wishes to whoever rubs my lamp." Martha looked a bit sad.

“So each of us would get three wishes if we rub your lamp?” the second girl asked. She had brown locks and was wearing a sleeveless vest and blue jeans.

“Alex!” Carrie interfered. “No wishes, you promised! Remember?”

“Ok.” Alex sounded really disappointed.

“This is Alex. She’s likes animals.” Carrie introduced the girl. Then she presented the last girl, a red-head, who was wearing a belly shirt and Daisy Dukes.

Suddenly, Annie’s body melted into a puddle. She slithered around Martha and formed back into her body. “I’m a slime girl. I can turn my body into slime. I can squeeze through narrow passages and do other cool stuff.”

Then Carrie turned to the boy. He had light brown hair, wire frame glasses, hazel eyes and, most eye-catching to Martha, was that he was wearing a Hawaiian print shirt with red seashells. “This is Max.”

“Enchantéd!” Max said.

“Do you have special powers too?” Martha asked.

“No, I’m normal." Max replied but was interrupted by Carrie.

“Unless you don’t count being super intelligent. The only really normal person here is Alex.” the rubber girl explained.

“Yeah…” Alex sighed “I wish I had powers like you.”

“That can be arranged.” Martha said. “I will grant you that wish. But you should specify what kind of powers you want to have.”

“I don’t know…” Alex turned a bit red.

“How about we tell you about the benefits and limits of our powers?” Carrie proposed. “Grace, will you go first?”

Grace steped forward, "Well, witch powers are great but also come with a lot of studying of spells and the theory behind said spells," she said.

"Rubber powers are great too. Rubber girls can stretch and morph our bodies into different shapes, though high heat or low cold are more uncomfortable for us than normal people" said Carrie.

"Slime powers are like rubber powers, with the same pros but a slime girl can be absorbed by absorbent material; also, heat can dry us out and make us into dust until we are rehydrated." said Annie.

"Whoa" said Alex.

"As a genie, you wouldn't have to learn spells. You would know instantly how to use your magic. And as time goes by, you will become even stronger and more experienced. But I guess that will be the same with every type of power.
Also, as a genie, you can turn you body into smoke..." Martha turned her body to smoke, hovered around and showed that she can squeeze through narrow spaces. "... and you can fly around like that."

“Cool, if I become a genie though, I will be a slave." asked Alex.

“It depends on the how you word your wish.” Martha replied.

"I got it. Can you turn me into a genie that is not bound to grant wishes to those who hold my lamp?" asked Alex

"Clever" said Grace.

"I think that might work." Martha said. "Is that your wish?"

Alex nodded.

“Then I propose you get your new home first. Let’s go and find a lamp or bottle for you.”

The gang headed out to a shop that sells second hand wares. Soon, they found a nice, oriental-style brass lamp, though it looked fake. Still, it was cheap and Alex could afford it. When they left the shop, they ran into two other school girls. One had short, brown hair and was wearing expensive, fashionable clothes. The other woman was wearing a brown and green cheerleader uniform. “Look what we got here. The Scooby Doo gang!” the cheerleader said.

“Bite you, Franny!” Carrie replied.

The other girl reached for the lamp. “What did you buy? This ugly thing? What do you need it for? Do you want to play genie?”

“That’s none of your business, Bella!” Alex fetched it from Bella’s hands.

“Don’t get snappy!” Bella replied.
“Be careful what you wish for, loser!” Franny said as the two girls walked away.

“Who are these two?” Martha asked.

“Bella and Franny, the two most annoying girls at our school.” Carrie explained.

“They are not worthy to be noticed at all.” Martha nodded.

“Can I get my wish now?” Alex asked.

“Sure!” Martha felt happy. She would turn Alex from a pesky human into a nice genie. Martha blinked. Blue smoke streamed out of it and enveloped Alex' legs. Her legs dissolved into the smoke and Alex was pulled into the lamp.
