Description I started a new sewing project! I wanted to do something special since this year is the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who and I've been wanting a new quilt but haven't found any in stores that I've been super enthusiastic about buying. My solution? Make one that does both. I also felt like getting back into cross stitch (which I've only ever done really simple stuff with and that was years ago). I ended up using powerpoint and pictures of the fabrics I wanted to use to make my approximate pattern (see first image). It's not perfect but it's close enough for planning. The very light blue part of the border will have The Doctor's name in circular Gallifreyan either printed on the fabric or cross stitched depending on how long everything else takes me. The center piece will have the TARDIS on a starry background. The windows will have cross stitched pane borders. I've stitched the police telephone sign already (see photo 3). The Doctor Who initials will be in the door panal to the right of the police telephone sign. The other four door panals will also have things cross stitched in them relating to the TARDIS and Doctor Who. Surrounding that are twelve square panals whichi will each have something to do with the show cross stitched in the center. I'm working on the Chameleon Arc fob watch currently (see photo 4) since it is likely the most complicated and will take the longest (it's on 28spi aida cloth and will still be about 7.5" when done). The four corner panals are being left blank, as is the rest of the border. The quilt will be approximately twin size (though a bit shorter). I'm also working on designing the fabric for the back (also in powerpoint and paint because I lack photoshop unless I can manage to borrow it from the school computers once classes start) and I plan on getting it printed through spoonflower. I have every cross stitch design planned out and a general idea for the back in progress but I will not reveal it all now. Instead I'll post updates as I finish each piece (what you see here took me just over a week). I'm hoping to have everything done and together in time to curl up in it to watch the 50th anniversary special (or the Christmas special if I'm too late). Oh, and it's hard to tell from the first picture but each of the fabrics I chose for the quilt has a galaxy/stars/swirly pattern as well as being blue. That and all the cross stitch will be simple outlines in black on the fabric so that they simply accent each other rather than overwhelm (it's also less confusing for me to only have one color thread to deal with, especially since I had to teach myself to cross stitch backwards for this project). Stay tuned!
