Caine wasn't sure about Riddle. When he had first appeared out of the forest trailing after Rune, Caine hadn't felt one way in particular about him. But as the days passed, his distaste grew. Rune could barely keep his eyes off the stud and floundered around like a love sick colt whenever he was nearby. At first, Caine had simply rolled his eyes and passed it off as a one-sided crush, and nothing more than that. But when he overheard Riddle flirting with Rune... Caine almost couldn't stand it! He had half a mind to walk right over and put that.. that colt in his place! However, he refrained. Rune certainly wouldn't want him to intervene. Caine had been trying to make amends after everything that had happened, but it seemed that everything he tried simply made the liver chestnut angrier.

Instead, he had glared at the pair from afar. Midas made some offhand comment about him being an 'angsty mess' but Hex chased him off shortly after. The seal bay stood next to the lead bachelor and watched in silence before he commented.

"You aren't going to do anything?" Hex asked softly, eyeing him warily for the signs of an aggressive outburst. Caine sighed and shook his mane.
"What should I do? It seems everything I do is the wrong thing," The black stallion muttered, shaking off a thick layer of snow that had settled on his back. Hex flattened his ears in thought.

"I am not the best one to give advice on these matters. However, I do know that doing something is better than nothing. If you do not act quickly, you will come to regret your actions," Hex said softly. Caine was surprised to hear so many words come out of the usually quiet stallion, but he nodded.

"What Hex didn't mention is that you should take Rune's feelings into consideration as well. Let's be honest, you REALLY fucked up. Rune might not be able to forgive you for that and he might not want you anymore. If that's how he feels, you need to accept that and let him be happy. You can't force someone to love you," Midas piped up, seemingly appearing out of nowhere. Caine nodded solemnly.

Hours later, Caine made his move on the new black stallion. Despite Caine's best efforts to be nonchalant, it seemed Riddle had been waiting for him.

"Good evening, Caine. How are you?" Riddle asked, a charming grin on his face.

"Fine," He responded, letting the conversation fade into awkward silence. 'Well, shit.' Caine hissed mentally, unsure of how to go about this. Caine glanced up and felt heat rise to the tips of his ears. Just as he was getting ready to abort mission and leave, Riddle saved him.

"It seems like there is something troubling you. Did you have something you wanted to talk about?" The charming stallion asked, tilting his head like an innocent colt.

Actually, yes. You see, Rune-" Before he could continue, Riddle piped up again.

"Yes, Rune! He's so friendly isn't he? And he deeply admires you, and not just for your leadership skills," Riddle said with a wink. "Although who wouldn't? Riddle ended casually, eyeing the lead stallion from ear to tail tip. Caine's couldn't believe his ears and he snapped his head up in confusion.

"Er… what?" He asked, completely dumbfounded. He pinned his ears and stumbled back a few paces. He wasn't quite sure how to deal with this attention and this was NOT where he had envisioned this conversation going.

You heard me, Caine. Or did you want me to say it in more straight forward terms?" Riddle teased, stepping forward. Caine needed an escape. Now. He glanced left and right before spotting Valafar and Fletcher sparring in the distance.

"I should.. go make sure those two colts aren't playing too rough," Caine said quickly, before bounding off in their direction. He could almost hear Riddle's laughter as he made his escape. He snaked the two bachelors out of sight of Riddle before slowing down.

"Hey, what the hell? I was just about to win-" Valafar grumbled.

Fletcher snorted indignantly: "No way!" The two continued arguing, giving Caine time to calm down.

Well, that didn't work...
