For s contest The Land Down Under

The singer Orpheus was one of a kind. Move over Elvis, Tome Jones, Robbie Williams and all the rest, his singing could make war stop and animals to come over and listen.

And he had one love in his life, the lovely young girl Eurydice who he spent time with, and most of the time they were happy flower children enjoying the wonders of nature. Until one late summers day when she got bitten by a snake and died almost instantly.

But Orfeus was not going to accept losing his love like that. He ventured to the Land Down Under to appeal to the king of the dead: Hades and his part-time queen Persephone. With his marvellous singing he convinced the royal couple to return his beloved. One one condition - he he should walk in front of her and was not allowed to turn back and look at her during their whole travel back up again.

Poor Orpheus almost succeded - in the last moment before seeing daylight again he "just had to check" and his beloved was dragged down under again.

This story always makes me and recently I saw the Gluck opera of the story and it inspired me to make this picture, and IMO there's hardly any better or darker story connected to the Land Down Under than this. Beats even Dante.
