Merle lives by himself in a small home tucked away in the woods. Well.. himself and 33 pet crows, three of which act as close familiars. He is a witch, in the broadest sense, but dabbles in multiple practices. One of his greatest passions is tending the massive garden at the back of his property, where he grows several plants used for magick, wicca and necromancy purposes, as well as some species he's bred and enchanted himself.

- His three familiars are named Brangwen, Crawford, and Paul.
- Brangwen: A large white raven. She stays inside most of the day, but is old and short-tempered and very clearly holds a position of power over the other birds.
- Crawford: A pied crow. He is curious and friendly. Usually the first to greet a visitor.
- Paul: An Australian little crow. She is small and timid, but very sweet once she warms up to new people.
