A man's home is his castle.

So being kicked out was a bit of an assault on that castle, for Fairy.

He loved his family, he really did, and he was sure they loved him too. His mother and father had always seemed so patient and affectionate, and yet....

What had changed? Fairy shook himself out to fluff out the fur on his neck when he was set down by his soft gray mother, glancing up at her as she gestured to a group of wynglings nearby. "I need to speak with Alma, she's one of the wyngrew in charge here," she said. "You have fun while I do that, alright my dixie pixie? Got everything you need for your short vacation?"

Fairy looked almost insulted at that as he watched the other wynglings play. Peasants, what dignity could they even muster should the need arise for it? "If Alma's in charge, I wanna talk to her too!" he squeaked up at his mom. "I don't wanna play with those wynglings, and I don't wanna stay here! Nobody will appreciate me!"

Dime let out a slow sigh at her son before turning him around again. "Please, I'll only be a moment. You'll like one of them, I'm sure of it! Look at that one, doesn't she look nice?"

Fairy scoffed and tossed his head back. "She looks like she wouldn't know good literature if it bit her in the face," he muttered into his fluffy neck.

"Fairy Floss! Be nice, nobody likes an attitude like that," Dime said sharply. "If you won't talk to the wynglings, just stay right here and I'll talk to Alma in her office." With that and without any further argument, Dime urged him towards the wynglings one more time before she hurried off to find Alma.

Fairy glowered over his shoulder at her before plopping into a sit and pawing at the necklace around his fluffy ruff. It was shaped like a heart, and a locket, containing a well-done picture his father had had commissioned from another wyngro artist of he, Dime, and Fairy as an egg. Even though he behaved poorly to his parents now and again, he'd never taken that locket off since they'd given it to him when he was old enough to not try and eat it, except for baths and sleep, where he had it nearby.

Ten minutes of bored waiting later, Fairy's ear nubs flicked up when he heard Dime approaching him again. "FINALLY. Can we go now, Mama?"

Dime almost looked sad, and, though Fairy hadn't noticed it, she'd looked sad the entire trip here, though it was more hidden. "Fairy, you remember what I told you. You're staying here for a week or so, just to get some variety into your social life. Alright?"

"With these hoodlums?"

Dime sighed again, but scooped him up into a firm hug that he writhed in and tried to escape from. "Ohh, my dixie pixie, they'll all recognize you as king of the hill in a couple of days, don't you worry. I'll be back this time next week, alright?" She didn't let on to the fact it would only be for a visit before she left again. She wasn't sure she was ready to admit that to herself, and a week might be enough to find a way to better deal with his antics in the home and help convince Cake to agree to taking him back again.

"Fine," Fairy groaned. "Just put me down, Mama! This is embarrassing!" he added, waggling his feet at her.

Dime chortled just a little bit before setting her wyngling down and heading for the door. "Have fun," she said, doing her best to hide the tension in her voice as she turned and left, door clicking shut behind her.
