I kind of like the metaphorical essence of painting flowers with beet juice and seeing if it will hold up over time.Β It might be interesting and kind of cool to watch as the colors fade to duller brownish tones as the flowers "die."

Does Chinese green tea keep its colour, I wonder, or does it fade? None of these would be colour fast, I would think. What an interesting experiment.

Hm, I think green tea will become brown. A good friend of mine is using tea to stain his water colour paper, and it seems the green tea is becoming brown:Β himmapaan.deviantart.com/art/Gβ¦
I think I will still try tea, I think the brown in combination with the pink will look great!Β

This is wonderful! Although I think it will also end up brown after some time...I've used a lot of natural pigments from vegetables in the past, which had beautiful tones, but after some time all of them go to some sort of brown-ish shade, hehe.

The unplanned projects are sometimes the most rewarding. I did a portrait with coffee at the beginning of july just for fun and people where amazed that you could paint with anything other than paint.Β

You are absolutely right, the tried and true 'purists' have missed the point. If there is no adventure how can there be growth?

That brush however does look pretty fantastic. I have not yet worked with asian style brushes and this does make me want to try. The detail here is lovely. well done, I hope the color stays true, but even faded it should look lovely.

What an excellent idea! I haven't though of using cooked beetroot juice yet. It'd be a shame if it did brown though, but hey if it does you know it looked beautiful initially anyway. Just another experiment, at least. Even if the colors dulled, I bet it would still have a certain...quality to it.
I hear you on the supplies bit; there are certain tools I like to pay the extra bit of money for (especially paper; I can use cheap pencils and crayons as long as I'm using them on good paper), but I've used so-called "low end" media and was more than satisfied with the outcome; for example I use this pack of 6 dollar ballpoints I got at Staples and they perform beautifully, arguably better than the more expensive Staedtler ballpoints I have, even.

Hey, maybe this experiment will be a rousing success if the color holds!
Yep, I've learned the hard way when trying to use cheap paper (or even, *gasp* copier paper...). For me, nothing is worse than working on paper that can't take anything, so I've cut corners with costs by getting slightly cheaper media and done just fine with them but I just...can't do it with paper, haha. I've done that with pens so many times now I can't even count; you never know when one you have might run out and you need another!

Kind of your basic blessing and curse sorta thing. Β There is no disconnect between my brain and my mouth, f'rinstance and the things that I say sometimes gets me in whatcha call your basic hot water. Β On the other hand, I can be hysterically funny. Β
