Description Base mesh for Hatsune Miku. I used dynamesh to quickly blob something out in zbrush, switched to 3dcoat to retopo and back to zbrush for final adjustments.

This is ready to sculpt on now.

how long did it take for you to complete this character? :3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HazardousArts In reply to axoupixouhou [2013-09-06 18:27:58 +0000 UTC]

It was for a character course that I did whilst helping 4 other coworkers. In total probably about 4 - 5 weeks of fulltime work spread out over the space of 3 months.

Woa.. Your work is amazing, and I have been trying to make a character of my own following your guidelines. I have to admit it is difficult because even if I am able to create the character I want, I would then have to animate it for a short animation project in my course this year. I want to just bow to you and yell "TEACH ME MASTER" right now (but I will hold back from doing so, xD )

Β Thanks for answering!!! ^^

CatalanoMedia [2013-02-10 01:03:28 +0000 UTC]

did you auto retopo in 3d coat?
What's wrong with using the base blob mesh?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HazardousArts In reply to CatalanoMedia [2013-02-10 02:44:13 +0000 UTC]

No, not autoretopo. Theres nothing wrong with it, you can if you like I prefer to have slightly more control over where my density is. It saves having to simply keep subdividing just because some area is not as dense as you would like it to be.

how do you export the 3dcoat?? can I import that on maya??

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HazardousArts In reply to Rapper8 [2013-01-13 22:46:26 +0000 UTC]

You export from 3dcoat using export topology. If you export as a obj - sure you import into maya!

Makes me want to get back into 3D modeling with my ADHD-suffering self. It reminds me of the base level classes I took. (I don't really have that condition--at least I don't think I do--but it is true that when I see stuff like this it makes me want to drop what I'm working on and try it.)

excited to see more and what you do with miku's head!

is the 3dcoat an "automatic" type function? Or is it almost the same process as the retopo in Z?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HazardousArts In reply to DarksealStudios [2012-05-04 23:31:07 +0000 UTC]

there are some automatic features, but it is too far from automatic to really call it that hehehe!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DarksealStudios In reply to HazardousArts [2012-05-05 06:00:37 +0000 UTC]

ah... would you call it "on par" with the zbrush tools? i always wondered about the "pros" to that software... never could find an excuse to pull the trigger to get it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HazardousArts In reply to DarksealStudios [2012-05-05 07:08:50 +0000 UTC]

i would say its much better than zbrush's tools. but still very far from automatic

I've never heard of 3D Coat before this. Any particular reason you retopologize in that over using ZBrush? Is it just easier/quicker to use?
