This one needs an explanation, as a literal blackened foot would be easily stomped on. One of UNC's early football superstars was nicknamed "The Battering Ram," so they got a live ram. The costumed Rameses debuted in 1987 -- at that time, the Heels were the only ACC team without a mascot -- while his son RJ came along in 2015.
