I was once flying when an Apache took off - it used the call sign vampire. (Needless to say, it was bad ass) - so is this photo!

Yeah, they don't fly much now that the force has left Afghanistan. Also the Apache force has lost 25% of it's aircraft since 2014. They have been stored for parts at Wattisham. Wallop has the single training unit, 673 Sqn. Wattisham did operate six squadrons between 3 and 4 Regiments, but one has been disbanded and another changed to an advanced training unit. You have to remember they deploy to the US and elsewhere in the UK for a lot of their training, and only a percentage is conducted direct from Wattisham. Also a lot is done at night, it's not unusual for them to be operating well past midnight. They're out tonight though, one just went out a few minutes ago!

Hi again,

Afraid not, Wattisham, Suffolk.  Wallop is home to just the basic training unit, all frontline and advanced training operations for the AAC Apache force is based at Wattisham.

That is a rare catch, a Army Air Corps Apache without the Longbow fitted. Despite living just a couple of miles from the main UK operating base I have seen that, from a distance just the once.
