Description
Warhammer 40K fanart of a Tactical Marine Sergeant from the Lamenters Chapter clad in an Artificer Armour based on the Mark IV 'Maximus' Pattern Power Armour and armed with a Meltagun.
Character Biography:
Sergeant Sephareus was a squad leader of the Lamenters Chapter's 3rd Tactical Squad of the 3rd Battle Company during the Badab War. Hailing from the Feudal/Forest World of Miranarius Beta, he was regarded by his brothers as a stoic leader who led his squad valiantly in the heat of battle even during desperate times and was willing to sacrifice his life for his Chapter as well as the safety of the people of the Imperium if necessary.
Prior to becoming as a Sergeant of the 3rd Tactical Squad, he was once a battle brother who joined in the Corinth Crusade in 701.M41. As the Lamenters prosecuted the Crusade tirelessly, Sephareus and his brothers fought bravely as they drove back the Greenskin menace in a series of campaigns and separate battles throughout the Corinth Sector. However, during the liberation of the world of Slaughterhouse III, this battle became the decisive turning point for the Chapter in the campaign. Upon learning that the Orks held hundreds of thousands of human slaves in the Mining World, the Lamenters launched a surprise assault on the Greenskins. As the prisoners rose up and joined the fray after the Ork captors were taken out, Slaughterhouse III was now in the hands of the Lamenters.
Despite their efforts in liberating the human prisoners from the Orks, the prisoners begged the Lamenters to deliver them from the hands of their enemies. Sephareus and his brothers were shooked by their request thus they hesistantly refused to leave the prisoners to their fate and resolved to fight and if need be nobly die while any chance remained. As the Techmarines of the Chapter desperately tried to restore the captured Ork starships to operational flight status, The 'Daughter of Tempests' and less than 200 surviving Lamenters battle-brothers stood against the nightmarish odds as waves of Ork starships and Fighta-Bommers attacked, only to be beaten back by the Lamenters' savagery. As the odds were at stake, the freed prisoners took it upon themselves to end the impasse; after a last prayer of thanks to the Emperor, they signalled the Lamenters' Battle Barge and requested a merciful death, knowing that at least they would die as free men and women rather than as the pawns of the bestial Greenskins.
With another Ork fleet massing for the attack, the Lamenters had no choice but to leave the prisoners and grant them with the Emperor's Peace by detonating a series of hundreds of seismic charges that had been honeycombed through Slaughterhouse III's mines. Sephareus and a few battle brothers from the surviving Lamenters voiced their concerns about this choice and claimed that there must be another way to save the freed slaves but the Ork fleet was encroaching towards the world, the seismic charges exploded thus laying waste to the surface of Slaughterhouse III and denying the Orks' mineral wealth and build-up of war materials. With fewer than 100 battle-brothers left standing, the battered but unbowed 'Daughter of Tempests' escaping the Slaughterhouse System, trailing a handful of converted Ork slave transports, carrying with them less than a tenth of the liberated slaves, Sephareus was left horrified by this "victory" and felt guilty for his actions for not saving many of the liberated slaves.
Many years later after the Corinth Crusade, Brother Sephareus became a sergeant of the 3rd Tactical Squad. Learning the hard way from his experiences back in the campaign on the Mining World of Slaughterhouse III, he was willingly prepared to sacrifice himself to ensure many of his brothers survive in the battlefield and keeping the lives of many Imperial citizens safe from harm. In 874.M41, the Lamenters' 3rd, 4th and 5th Battle Companies were dispatched onto the world of Morloxasha Maximus as the world was besieged by an Ork Waaagh! and the Planetary Defense Forces stationed on the planet engaged the barbaric xenos in combat. While the Lamenters aid the Planetary Defense Forces evacuate the civilians to underground bunkers, Sergeant Sephareus led his squad in the front to face the Greenskins in battle. Upon witnessing an Ork Nob charging at a squad of PDF guardsmen holding the line, Sergeant Sephareus shot down the xenos with his Meltagun thus saving the guardsmen from death. With the Orks driven back from Morloxasha Maximus and the Lamenters suffered few losses, the citizens of the planet thanked them for their actions.
As the Lamenters Chapter joined the Secessionists out of pride during the outbreak of the Badab War, Sergeant Sephareus and his Tactical Squad's role in the conflict remains unknown but it was suggested that they were assigned in defending the supply convoys from any boarding actions conducted by any Loyalist Chapter. But as the tides of battle turned in favour of the Loyalists, the Lamenters' fortress-monastery, the "Mater Lachrymarum", would be boarded by the brutal Minotaurs Chapter. As an intense fight erupted inside the fortress-monastery of the Chapter, many of them were slain by the Minotaurs Astartes. When one Lamenters battle brother was about to be killed by a Minotaurs Astartes, Sergeant Sephareus stepped in and slew the vicious Minotaurs Astartes with a single shot of his Meltagun at point blank. Knowing that he will not survive in this battle, he fiercely charged at the Minotaurs until he was gunned down to death by a Tactical Squad thus meeting his end.
As depicted above prior to his fall in battle aboard the "Mater Lachrymarum", Sergeant Sephareus was clad in a Master-crafted Artificer Armour based on the relic Mark IV 'Maximus' Pattern Power Armour with components taken from the Mark III "Iron" Pattern Power Armour for extra durability on the pauldrons and chestplate. In addition, the greaves were reinforced with additional plating through the use of molecular bonding studs, and instead of using the standard "Maximus" Pattern helmet, he wore an "Aquila" Pattern helmet variant based on the "Curadh" Pattern helmet utilized by Company Champions and/or Chapter Champions. As for his weapons, he wields a Meltagun as his primary armament for short-range combat against armoured units, and he carries a Power Sword and a Plasma pistol as his secondary or last resort weapons.
