I did the basecoats at the same time, but refined the character first and ended up almost completely repainting the background after I picked it up again after not working on it for three months.

The... base colors, like before shading, highlighting, and detail are added.

No, just the flat colors beneath the shading and highlighting. for example, the wall was just solid red and tan before I shaded and highlighted it and drew the bricks.

I liked this one from the first WIP you showed me, and I'm glad you refined the backgroundclouds enough to be less distracting from the rest because damn does this kick arse. Very unusual and interesting setting, and colors work together so very well. Gah colors. YOU AND YOUR COLORS. STOP THE AMAZING.

Ooh. I had no idea you had been working on this in OpenCanvas. O:
Anyhow. This came out really awesome. :> I absolutely love the background - especially the clouds and the wall. And the detail is so very nice.
I really love how you did the affects in the fur, and the eye looks wonderful. But you always draw very nice eyes. <3
Also, I really like the folds in the right sleeve. Heee.
But thank you so much. :] This came out awesome. I promise I'll get busy on your half soon.

I don't know, you'd have to ask the character's creator.

Great overall pic. I love how the painting style gets slightly clearer, from simple/solid in the background, to smooth on the body, to detailed on the face, making it stand out.

Cool.
Open Canvas vs. Gimp.
Who wins?

openCanvas = win
I have no idea why, but painting in openCanvas is both infinitely more fun than painting in Photoshop (and most likely the GIMP seeing as it's a derivative of Photoshop) and oftentimes yields a better result, even if you're using the free version of openCanvas (1.1) and only really have two layers to work with. I used to use Photoshop almost exclusively, but now I do the majority of my digital work in openCanvas.

Hm, because I use GIMP, and my stuff looks like poop.
