Well, according toΒ Nietzche, life is meaningless and amoral; the universe is cruel, uncaring and heartless; death, pain and suffering are inevitable; and people are flawed. And yet despite it all, it is possible, given enough determination and clarity of purpose, instead of surrendering to rage, apathy or depression at this revelation, a person could accept this fatalistic outlook and still create meaning and purpose for one's own existence, striving to improve oneself in all ways, and help others do the same, for as long as the person could live, thus embodying the ideal of the anti-nihilistic 'Ubermensch' Or in this case, the 'Uberpferd'.
That's the gist of his philosophy, from what I can tell.Β

The problem with Nietzsche is that he tends to over-write his works, such that his meaning becomes vague and more prone to interpretation. Don't get me wrong, I like Nietzsche. (it's just that his works are that of a stereotypical intp)

Overwriting wasn'tΒ just a Nietzsche problem. It was a problem of most philosophers and political thinkers of the time. Marx, Feuerbach, Kant, and many others wrote paragraphs denser than a neutron star.

I do agree about the universe though. We exist on a mote of dust drifting in infinite space, and any attempts to leave it result in death by radiation (which is why we stay here most of the time and only venture as far as the moon) We have a lot against us, but by working together and overcoming the limitations the universe presents us with, we will one day overcome the barrier and venture to the stars. IF we work together.
Eventually though, we may overcome death which will invite a whole new set of problems we will face, but in exchange hopefully we gain more from it than we lose.

Spoon would do well to broaden her reading list a bit--some pony-equivent Rousseau, Hobbes, Locke, etc. would "balance things out", or at least give insight into alternate viewpoints.

There was a fanfic where she was given books with conflicting philosophies by her parents, just because they were 'smart' books... Not to mention some other books they unwittingly got her that she was way too young for.Β
