Description I was playing through Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future again recently, and I remembered how much fun Perils of the Coral Reef was. I loved that shark, even though he could be a real pain to fight sometimes.

This is my interpretation of how it would look if the situation were to take place in real life. To add more of the "Ecco" feel, rather than simply dolphin versus shark, the Guardian Crystal is floating in the back outcrop, all shiny, glimmering, and epic holy looking like he did in the games. Gotta love those floating, talking crystals.

I really, really hope you like this. I took a long time to make it look just right. ^^

I don't know if this was fixed or not, but did anyone else notice that until you use sonar on the shark, the great white won't attack you? I could swim right in front of the thing's nose and it acted like I wasn't there.
This is amazing, by the way. One of my favorite parts of the game, and you captured it perfectly.

I got this game when I was 6, and that shark scared me to death......then 6 years later, I fight him and say to myself, I was scared of THAT!?!?! Nice job btw!

Thank you very much! I totally agree about that shark. Now? Now it's not scary, per se, but whenever I play, I kinda shy around it like "Ok. Ok ok ok. Don't get eaten." lol

I never had the game sadly but I was watching the gameplays on YouTube. Seems like you have to time getting the Power of Vigor and at the same time, knowing where the great white is to attack him from behind or the side. x_x;

Sounds like a tough challenge - but what's an Ecco game without such a challenge, eh? c:

By the way, the music on this game rocks.

And, I love how Discovery Channel this looks! <3

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

GregorytheImpaler In reply to Mercy-Harris [2012-11-02 22:19:18 +0000 UTC]

I totally agree! That was a really crazy fight. I didn't know the first time around that you could opt to not fight the shark, you just miss out on a powerup. lol
Classic Ecco difficulty. Playing through was such a pain, but that lovely sort of pain only an Ecco game can give. The music and graphics were astounding, and with the game itself, it made it way too amazing to compare to other games at the time; even to some now. Going back and playing/watching makes me want to buy a Wii JUST for Forever Blue/Endless Ocean.

But, it sounds almost too tempting too just forget about, though. xD

That's the charm about Ecco games: they always sport difficult missions and worlds but it's so worth it and it even becomes refreshingly addicting (if that makes sense). xD

! Defender of the Future is on the Wii?

GregorytheImpaler In reply to EveeLover [2012-09-06 09:28:29 +0000 UTC]

Thank you kindly! Yes, there was Ecco, Ecco 2: The Tides of Time, and Ecco Jr. (a child's game) for the Sega master system/Genesis. On Sega Dreamcast (and PS2) there was a 3D game called Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future. It's story was different, only similarity being invading aliens, but it was phenomenal. (in my opinion, and many others who loved it too). Worth checking out if you have a PS2 or Dreamcast. (or can get one cheap)

:-D Yeah, I'm not usually one for photo-manipulations, especially of aquatic animals... they always "look fake," like a bad CGI fire or water effect. (This, coming from someone who has absolutely NO talent with P-Ming...) But really, from the thumbnail, I was convinced you had captured a really nice screenshot with the remote camera. Masterfully handled.

GregorytheImpaler In reply to UinenFirestar [2011-04-12 10:59:22 +0000 UTC]

I'm very, very happy to hear that. I did another one of the Hanging Waters, but it's sub-par. I really wanted to work on it more, but laziness took over. I took a long time to work on this one to make sure that it was acceptable, and believable. I agree about difficult work with photo-manips. It took a long time to find a shark photo that had the right coloration of water tinting, the right amount of light, and the right angle to make match up well enough to even begin working with. Once again, thank you for your comments.

woahh, sorry it took so long for me to respond i never noticed you commented back. it was just a general overview in powerpoint form of the coral reef for biology. i'm soo bad at biology so i think the picture helped make up for it XD

Yeah! Personally, my favourite nostalgia game. I still pull the DC out and play it now and again (along with other titles). It was (like the originals) really phenomenal for it's time.

lol I think I remember hearing about that. It's so lame that Sega doesn't want to bring themselves back, even though they have the ability to now.
Man, I've been dying for a Shenmue 3. :\

Oh My Gosh! I Still have that Game, and For the Life Of Me, I Really Couldn't get past where everything got all "Slave Dolphins" and Stuff... its a Large Level with Green water, and I Had No idea what to do This Picture has Inspired me to Pick up the Game Again

and Fighting that Shark was So Fun, I Just Loved to Swim around, I Didn't like Killing him Cause when you went Back to that Level from the Selective menu, He didn't appear, and it was so Fun just to Swim away from him and Keep tricking him Into the Little Hole and I Also Found out there is a Little Bumpy area at the Bottom of the Area you fight him in, If You go down deep enough and Stay there he Can't Reach you and Keeps Bobbing up and Down Trying to Bite Ya!

Soliassoul In reply to Hisui-Lupo [2012-05-16 04:56:40 +0000 UTC]

I know what level your talking about! Shrine of Controversy! That's a fun level because of the ritual Ecco must complete in order to get the Machine Harness. Need help still? I'll direct you all the way to Chance of Reckoning if you like, but beyond that is uncharted waters... I still need to beat the game! 5 more levels!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Hisui-Lupo In reply to Soliassoul [2012-05-28 14:18:31 +0000 UTC]

I Absolutely love That Level, Still Do Play the Game when I Actually Setup the Old PS2 (I Have a PS3 Now) I Don't Know why But Gaining the Crimson Fins and the Harness was My Favourite Part, it Made Eco Look Amazing!

Thanks for the Offer of Your Help but I Did Complete the Game a Few Months Back Now, Let's Just Say the Last 5 Levels I Found Highly Frustrating, ESPECIALLY The Hatchery and There is One Before You Enter the Foe Queen that I Absolutely Despise because of all the Foe Creatures About

Good Luck! and Keep at the Game in the Last Levels, Because if you Give up You Don't Get Too Far

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Soliassoul In reply to Hisui-Lupo [2012-05-28 19:12:32 +0000 UTC]

Hooo yeah! I know! Perseverance and patience is the only way to beat that game! When I began to play again, I didn't stop until I beat Hanging Waters!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Hisui-Lupo In reply to Soliassoul [2012-06-01 16:36:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Hanging Waters, Although a Beautiful Level ... Is VERY Patience Trying When You Can't Get the Angle of those Bubbles Just Right, But I Got Past that Level After Using a Little Geometry Working

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Soliassoul In reply to Hisui-Lupo [2012-06-01 17:03:07 +0000 UTC]

I'm still missing 1 vitalit on that level! I've played it through 10 times over, yet I can't find the last one! Oh yeah! One more thing... Eeeeeeeeeee! I did it! I finally completed Ecco The Dolphin: Defender of The Future! The last 5 levels were creepy! But Ecco pulled through! I'm am so proud for beating the hardest game ever! I'm so happeh! ^^
