Description I actually wanted to join the character of the week challenge but I wasn't able to finish my character soon enough because I was too lazy. But I finished him now, so here you go.^^
The topic was the explosives addict and I made a filthy elf that's into explosive potions.

Different colors than I had in mind initially but I think it works like that.

Very nice! And since this looks like the perfect example to ask this queestion:

From what scale or distance do you normally work. As in what do you suppose the ratio of extreme ends might be? I guess that may vary according to canvas size and brush size too.
I noticed that I tend to work from a view to where I can see everything and then zoom in only a bit. For large areas for general shape or color I zoom out to 50%. Work mostly in 100% and zoom to 200% and rarely 300%.  Just curious how others work the view.

Hey Huckleseed,
to be honest, I haven't thought about that so much before. but I think I try not to zoom in too much until I have blocked out the overall shape. I'm a bit shortsighted though so later on when I'm painting the details I zoom in quite a lot ^^.

And that makes good logical sense. I think that I must be claustrophobic because when I zoom in too close I feel boxed in. But it also means that I rely too much on a texture brush to add "detail" because I won't get in there at close quarters to make actual detail.

Thanks! I just needed some awareness of what is limiting what i do.

Oh, I forgot to mention another artist that I am watching. It goes along with the detail question I am studying. I like the artwork that they do because it does a great job of implying detail when viewed from the proper distance. Your own brain fills in the detail because as you get closer you see that it really isn't there. Here's a sample:

Haha, shouldn't it be the other way round, feeling boxed in when zooming out?^^ But I think it's cool, I always have to force myself not to zoom in too early.
On the artist you mentioned, thanks! Yeah, he's doing a great job on letting brains fill the stuff in.
