Description Fur Affinity post

I was looking at my current avatar -

- and I thought it was time I needed a new one. The proportions were just a little off, I wasn't entirely happy with the facial expression... it just needed replacing. And I always preferred Fox Avatar 3 -

- for the expression in that, and the way the cheek fluff looked. But I'd already replaced that for a reason, so I thought, why not redraw it? And here we are. This is, through and through, a redraw of #3. I even traced it to start with - just for some basic guidelines, you understand - and then worked on improving it. It took a couple of hours, but I eventually got a satisfying outcome. I always preferred the neutral expression, the slightly downturned head, and averted gaze of the older one - it just seemed to fit me better. (And yes, I'm still going to insist that this guy isn't my fursona - he's still got to represent me, though.) I really don't understand why, but it's really hard to draw this guy. It's just like, he has to look a certain way. I always used Fox Avatar 3, the debut of his current design (minus the ear and neck fluff), as the benchmark, and never quite got the cheek fluff right... until now. Like with #5, I'm using different coloured backgrounds for some sites/accounts, but you don't need to see all of them - especially since there are no facial differences this time.

I've noticed that I kind of have a tradition of replacing my avatar every autumn. The first and second didn't really follow the rule, but #3 lasted from November 2015 to October 2016 (on every site except DA, where I used #4, an animated one, from March 2016 onwards), then I drew Fox Fashion , which provided #5. And that lasted from October 2016 until November 2017. Totally wasn't intentional. See you here again in a year, I guess.

Here's a side-by-side comparison:

I drew a suit on him because that's how he dresses, and only decided to make it all grey at the last minute... but that made it kind of weirdly remind me of the cover art for David Bowie's 2002 album, Heathen.
