Description A herd of 11 Wild forest Reindeer. (Rangifer tarandus) Truly wild reindeer are apparently rare in the wild, but in the area I live, their numbers have increased significantly over the past few years. They annually migrate past our house during spring time. The Reindeer that are herded (domesticated) in Lapland are slightly different when comparing antlers and hoofs.

Also wolves have the tendency to follow around their tracks while they pass.

Reindeer are 185-220cm long, 90-110cm high at the shoulder, the female weighs 40-100kg, the stag is larger and weighs 70-150kg, the tail is 10-15cm long. Both sexes have antlers, though the stag's are larger. Stags rub off the antler velvet in August/September, the doe sheds her antlers in May.

So the females are the ones who have the antlers during winter season.

Saturday ‎2nd March ‎2019 (I was supposed to stay inside because I had caught a cold/flu/fever, but instead I was running outside -with my elbows and knees wet from snow- after a herd of wild reindeer. Good way to spend an afternoon. )
