Description Made this after seeing yet another example of it.

You know, I've only had this happen to me once, and very faintly at that, but all the time, I see artists (comic artists in particular), like (and I know there are others, plenty of them) who have their own lives, their own interests, and yet all many people seem to be able to do is ask when will their work be updated (her comic, in iLarvitar's case).

Now don't get me wrong, I like her comic too, and am happy when it's updated. But for goodness sakes, people. You do realize that when that's all you ask her about, when that's all you say to an artist or a writer is "DO MORE NOW PLZ," you're giving the impression that you don't give a DAMN about them. Only about what they do. And while you may say "Hey, that means you're popular, you should be happy!"

I fail to see why ANYBODY should be happy about being turned into a comic-, art-, or story-making machine by their viewers.

Appreciate the person behind the art, not just the art itself.

P.S. I'm not saying it's bad to ask how someone's progress is going every once in a while. But when you nag, and that's all you ever talk to the creator about, that's when it becomes a problem. There's also a difference between "How's the comic/story coming?" and "Update soon!"

P.S.S. Oh goodness, I forgot, I apologize. The stamp template came from $zilla774

People unwatch because of that? I watch those who I believe are nice people, not because of the art they draw

I feel like this all the time. But not with a series of writings or comics, more like commissions and art trades.
"OMG ZETA WHEN WILL U GET MY COMMISH DONE?!!!1one."
Alright, sorry I have like, idk school, studying, homework, and just flat-out other stuff that I'd rather be doing atm. Kthnxbai.

well, when you have commissions, part of that deal is getting the work done in a reasonable timeframe

It gets quite annoying. For example, *montyoum created Dead Fantasy, a series of fan videos. All I see is "WHEN WILL DF 6 COME OUT?!111" Annoys the heck out of me.

I support this stamp because it's very rude to say things like "UPDATE THIS SOON PLZ!!11!", however, it is nicer to say "How is the comic/fanfiction going? It's great!". My friend, ~Sayaandhagi4ever is one of those people, she actually compliments my comic and doesn't rush me. She even gives me ideas, whenever I get writer's block and can't get any ideas.

I can't draw so I don't have that problem but it always makes me mad to see a person get rushed. Unlike most of the people who rush them, they have a life!

Besies, the more you rush someone the slower his/her updates will be so you'll just end up making things worse.

AWESOME STAMP

I support this stamp b/c this has happened to me CONSTANTLY in fan fiction. I don't like people asking me to 'Update Soon!' and I find it really rude (which is why I disabled anonymous reviewing on fanfiction.net b/c I had a small problem where the same person reviewed the same chapter over and over and over again almost every fucking day). It stops me from updating b/c it is so annoying to hear/read it. It takes TIME to get shit done (as they say Rome wasn't built in a day). I am so using this stamp Thank you for making it

Ugh; amen to that. XP I hate it when people are expecting you to finish things up ASAP. Sometimes, you just don't have the inspiration or the motivation to do any of it or you're busy living your life and trying to take care of more important things. Not many people do that to me personally, but I know a lot who do to other artists. XP It's ridiculous. If the fans love someone's work a lot, then it should be worth the wait. >_> Anyways, thanks for making the stamp; it's so true and amazing. I love it and am currently using it. Awesome job.

AMEN.

If I had a subscription, I would definitely use this stamp. I have a fanfic on another site, and one of the updates took FOREVER, and when I finally posted it all I got was "UPDATE SOME MORE NOW!!!" Can't tell you how much that ticked me off!

I admit, I used to write "MORE" and such in comments, but after seeing how it felt I realized...it just isn't fair. People seem to think that all there is to a person is their updates.

So...THANK YOU SO MUCH. s!

Though I still feel a probably unusual amount of guilt when I put off commissions or things I owe people, I have to take a step back and think like this. I'm an artist. You can't force inspiration sometimes.

Thanks for the great stamp!

Yes. Thankfully most of my readers realize that I am a university student and Moon Virus isn't my top priority... the comic I actually get paid for is. I try to be regular, but that usually means that color will not happen and then they whine about "oh, why's the color gone?"... sigh. But at least I know they love me.

Clouded-Leopard17 [2008-11-18 22:48:30 +0000 UTC]

This is so true. has to deal with that on a regular basis. I'm pretty sure , , and numerous others do also. In general, any popular artist is often subject to this treatment. The artist makes art for their own enjoyment. Why should they get pressured to do something they do not want to do? As you said, they may not have the time for it, or simply may be too tired to update. If I had a subscription, I would definitely use this stamp. Despite the fact that I've never had to deal with it....

I love you for this *_*

Oh God this happened to me allot in the past. I even had like 10 fucking people in a chat room wanting me to insert them all. Does it ever occur to people that maybe I have no fucking USE FOR THEM? Its like they think you'll change the whole story structure just to fit them.

8D and then people only liked me for my fanart... I deleted it and said "I hate this fandom. byebye" and they still insist on asking me where the shit went... and watching me expecting more... and considering me a (fandom's title)-artist. -_-'

That wasn't exactly what I was talking about (I was referring to people who are like "Why aren't you working on this? Update it soon, I want to see what happens next!), but oddly enough, a similar instance to that was part of what inspired me to make this. I don't get why people think someone would want to mess around with the perfectly good plot they already have just to accomodate some random reader-made character. Which is pretty much what you said.

That's a challenge too....

Anyway, glad you liked it. ^^

LOL well people nag me to finish things too XD; Or ask when I'll update a 'webcomic' when I've announced it as a preview 9_9;;; It all kinda goes hand-in-hand. Annoying fans without any sense of how WE feel and can't take the answers provided.

You're welcome

Forcestar [2008-11-18 09:02:46 +0000 UTC]

Too true, Gorse, too true. Even though I am an author, not an artist, I understand the feeling of being under pressure from others about your work, and having people only care about you because of what you've written. Darn them all!

(And I hope you've never felt this from me, either)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gorsecloud In reply to Forcestar [2008-11-18 22:37:16 +0000 UTC]

I haven't felt it from you, but you and I have had a similar enough experience, though not with our creative works. But the overall concept of being treated more like a machine than a human.

Do the words "There's another one in Random Babble!" ring any bells?

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Kikirini [2008-11-18 04:21:18 +0000 UTC]

I agree. Although, as a comic artist who updates pretty regularly, I don't like seeing artists who pull "I'm not in the mood to update," as an excuse. Simply because, in my opinion, if you're going to start a comic, you should work on it as often as you can (once again, if you've a busy life, that's a fine excuse), as people are reading it. But, I guess I understand... I'm just a loser with enough time to update... XD

Nonetheless, it's a good point that people should understand. We're not professionals, we have lives after all...
