HOLY CRAP. Freakin' awesome. I don't like the lineart either, to be honest. But hey, the background pretty much makes up for it, huh?

lol I know - it's hideous XD But I can't figure out what to do to it to make it less hideous - the whole thing just looks wrong. Any suggestions?

Um... I would say probably... *scrutinizes picture* I would ref a cheetah head, because the proportions kind of look wrong... And I would lose the lineart that isn't neccesary. How to describe the location... Um... I think it's supposed to be rimming the lighter fur, but I don't see any difference between the two sections. I think the head basically needs a big redux. Without the spots, it would be hard to discern that this is indeed a leopard/cheetah. I'm not sure what I would think it is without the spots.
But yeah, redo the head while closely studying a cheetah or leopard side view reference and make a discernible color change between the two main sections of this big cat. Also, I would make the inside of the ears lighter, maybe add a little bit of fur detail in the ears and along the back. But whatever you do, don't redo the background, because that is probably the most gorgeous BG I have ever seen. You're awesome at them.
Oh yeah- the eyes could use some more detail. I would also look at some of 's pictures to see where she shades along the head, as the cheetah head looks a little flat. Just from experience, which I don't have much of, I would say that you should shade darker around the eyes to make them seem slightly sunken and to softly highlight the brow. This is just from glancing at a picture of a cheetah skull. If you want me to go even more in depth, I guess I could, but you wouldn't get much more out of me. I'll end this comment before it's too late.

Ahh avyris - so many times she's been my inspiration for art ^^ Thanks for the advice - I'll pull together some references and use your ideas too - see if I can make my cats look a bit less weird XD
The problem is that every person I know who can draw big cats has always copired their style from Lion King, which Im trying to avoid if I can - but it's tough getting a style of one's own XD
Thanks again Darkwolf! ^^

One question... is it a cheetah or a leopard or something else?
