Description This is a new portrait drawing I've been working on for the past few weeks. Sadly, this man was involved in a car accident with a drunk driver and he lost his life. His family approached my website and commissioned me to do a portrait for them. I had a pretty tight deadline, considering it's size. I've done many projects like this one for families and it can be kind of an emotional process for me...even though I have never met anyone involved. I've been studying this guy's face and trying to bring him to life on paper, hoping I do a good job for the family. I will probably never forget his face either. I've thought a lot about what kind of a person he was, what his aspirations were in life, how he influenced other people, etc.. What a tragic thing that he is lost forever for something so senseless. His family will never again get to tell him they love him. Please think of this guy's face before you get into a car and drive drunk.

This is a pretty big project for me. The drawing itself is 14"x20" and I only had a few weeks to complete it. Then the family ordered 3 full sized prints of the work too. I have to frame and matte all 4 works, frame size 22"x28", and the family will be picking up everything from me in the coming weeks. Usually I will omit brand names from drawings but the family requested that I keep the "Korn" logo on the hat. They said the hat was a gift from his brother and it was important to keep it in the drawing.

14"x20" Fabriano Hotpressed Watercolor Paper
7B, 3B, HB, H, 5H pencils

This story is an inspiration to all artists who create emotionally driven art, and artists who put this much passion into their art. Hopefully others can appreciate the magnitude of emotion that affect us as we work on projects like this. Thanks so much for sharing this...

This is such a great drawing, I think the meaning behind it makes it even better. You've captured him very well, and your message about him is very good. Great job on this

I think of Nimra's work when I see and feel the spirit of this subject. You must have accomplished your goal in this drawing. Wonderful!

You've managed to capture him really well, nice expression. Details are really great, not overdone but well balanced. I hope the prints come out nicely!

I think you did a brilliant job on this one. I like your 'newish' style like where you work out the face in detail but you leave the outer line of his shirt 'unrealistic'. That actually lays a focus on how realistic the face actually is. It seems like if you wouldn't draw that line, you would forget it's a drawing.
