Varan is a giant chinese water dragon mutated by the dumping of nuclear waste. He fist emerged from a lake in China, where the locals knew him as the legendary Bā lā dájí. He frequently terrorized the locals, trampling over their homes and feasting upon them. After his battle with Godzilla, Rodan who was nesting nearby, and an enraged Kong who had recently escaped from a Chinese military facility, at the Great Wall of China, was later dispatched by Godzilla and sent to the Monster Island. He later made allies with the mutations Baragon and Manda.
