Across the expanse of human colonization in the small percentage of the milky way we've called our home, mining has been by far the largest industry throughout it. For mineral and metals to construct space ships, cities, and whatever else; or to find fuel sources for smaller snubcraft used across the stars or water in asteroids and meteorites to supply mining colonies or waypoint colonies in deepspace. Mining has always been one of the strongest industries and continually profitable ones. Trident, Barworks mining firm, Ortage Mining, and many other corporations that spread in the UCR to the Free Colonies. It also is the start to larger settlements, as more often than not as these posts expand, they require more and more workers to move in, starting the growth of corporate run colonies.

It's also one of the gateways to the shadow war waged by greedy corporations. Hostile takeovers between some of the smaller, arguably less well off and set mining firms take place to take more territory and use it for greater sales.

It's all part of life in the wild west that is the Free Colonies.
