I agree with what is said above, manual safeties can get you killed when your stress levels rise and you are running at 50 percent skill level. Just too much to deal with when you're life is on the line in my opinion, and not to mention if someone just woke you up from your sleep by busting in your house and you're half asleep and it's dark too. Many people think they'd never do something stupid by leaving their safety on, etc. but it happens. If you ask me... I say simple is safe.

Anyway, beautiful guns and a great picture... I especially love that Remington!

Finally..someone who actually knows what he is talking about. Thanks for the comment.

BUT..even I don't love the Remington yet..not until I get that Nightforce on there!

I'm glad someone out there thinks I know what I'm talking about Thank you.
Even when I bought my Glocks, the dealer tried to push the XD on me and said it was a safer pistol (must have been a promotion that week)... anyway, he said "look it has a grip safety"... to which I replied, "but I don't want a grip safety"... to which he then replied, "why?" Being as I did not want to get caught up preaching how I feel about safeties on a defense pistol, I just asked for the two Glocks I had been looking at and took them.

Nightforce on the 700 = mean machine, no doubt.

Well definitely more so than some of the people on here. I remember you telling me about that. There is one thing I use that usually dumbfounds them. "If they are so good, why does the FBI buy 235,000 Glocks every year, and the XD has been around EIGHT YEARS, and doesn't have a single government contract?"

Yeah, that does work... nobody really has anything to say about that.

I would like to think of people who swear by XDs as.."future victims".

MrPorter In reply to GlockGuy [2009-11-04 10:39:05 +0000 UTC]

Sad, but unfortunately true.

There's a few handguns I would count on in a life/death situation, but XD is not one of them. As a matter of fact, now that I think about it... seems to me like the XD is a solution to a non-existent problem. I always hear people complain about Glock's lack of safety features and it is, in all reality, safer than most. I'm always telling people that a good quality striker fired pistol has no need for a manual safety... just keep your damn finger off of the trigger until you need it. I'm honestly getting tired of all this Glock vs. XD crap... I mean I love my Springfield 1911-A1 and all, but I would not trust it with my life over my Glock 17 or 22. I am not biased towards Glock (ok, maybe a little), but I recognize the XD as being a trashy half-assed clone of Glock. Then I have people tell me my Glocks are ugly and the XD looks better and more modern, to which I say I hope the person you are defending your life against recognizes this and appreciates your good taste in firearms and lets you live when your XD fails you. I know you and I have been through all this before, but I can't stand it when people think I don't like the XD only because I like Glock. Glocks are better, but that's not the reason I don't like the XD. Anyway, I know I'm probably beating a dead horse here, but you're one of the only people I know that is not on the XD bandwagon to some extent. So if I rant, it's simply because I believe that you can understand my point of view... and sometimes that's a helpful thing. So next time someone tries to push the XD on me, I might just tell them about your "future vitims" theory.

Well it makes sense. The only reason it wins awards is because its popular. Still a Croatian made piece of shit.

Glock Safe Action Pistols come in every caliber from .380 Auto to 10mm, and do not incorporate a manual safety, an item that hundreds of people have been killed for. I think you need to do more research.

Well I'm trying to nice and I never liked glocks to start with plus I find a manual saftey to be perfect for me and tell me what caliber glock do you keep?

GlockGuy In reply to DarkProxy [2009-10-30 00:59:37 +0000 UTC]

In a civilized setting, no one caliber has a better advantage over another. Defensive rounds made for both the .45 and 9mm meet the FBI's 12" minimum penetration. Personally I'll go with a smaller lighter load with more capacity.

true I just prefer stopping power

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GlockGuy In reply to DarkProxy [2009-10-30 21:10:50 +0000 UTC]

If you're talking about stopping power, a .45 has LESS total muzzle energy than a light 9mm traveling supersonic. Thousands of cases have proven that it doesn't matter what caliber is used, and isn't relevant over actual shot placement.

DarkProxy In reply to GlockGuy [2009-10-30 22:49:32 +0000 UTC]

its also ben proven the 9mm tend to go through their targets what good is a bullet that doesn't stop when it enters its target

Proven by whom? A redneck with a Hi-Point? Even the worst of hollow point bullets expand when exposed to hydrostatic shock of flesh. I have NEVER seen or heard of one going through-and-through that wasn't FMJ.

DarkProxy In reply to GlockGuy [2009-10-31 16:23:20 +0000 UTC]

By SOCOM when testing out the MK23 to the M9 the 9mm went through the simulated human (a thing of clay) while the 45 round stopped in it. The simulation was to see which had a better chance of putting a person down in a shot. do you even follow what the US milataary does with firearms?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GlockGuy In reply to DarkProxy [2009-10-31 18:26:23 +0000 UTC]

I think a better question is do YOU? A citizen of the United States could care less what results from military ballistic qualifications. The only reason clay is used is because it is a better ballistic analog for armor testing. Whether or not a round will work in a human is better tested on ballistic GELATIN.

Not to mention the fact that the armed forces do not issue hollowpoints.

DarkProxy In reply to GlockGuy [2009-10-31 21:39:17 +0000 UTC]

no they don't I use hollow points decpite the pain i go through to get the damned things as for the arms issues don't start me on the M16/4 series is debocle that has been passed down for generations and I saw the USSOCOM footage released to pubilc officials that handled the data and treaties concerning the use of .45 rounds in general Socom has jumped through hoops to keep the Mk-23 of course the gun features things that civialian market banned . plus have you any idea on the physics behind the 9mm the things velocity is better at punching through things then actually stopping them as for you I'd say you were some branch of law enforcement that couldn't find tits in strip club if you're border patrol then this country is hell I admit I haven handeled a gun since i was 18 other then my USP which I just bought.

Haha whoa buddy. If you want to start a pissing contest, I've been handling firearms for the last 12 years, active in the industry for the last four years. You get a few weeks of boot, and suddenly think you know more than anyone else. Get your head out of your ass, and get off your high horse. This conversation is done.
