monthly prompt | january 2021
frozen over

was really inspired by shaun tan's "the water buffalo" and the
unique shapes he used for the buffalo's face. the perfect level of grump
that would fit skoo's general demeanor.

also the whole anthology of stories in this collection, Tales From Outer Suburbia,
has a kind of eclectic vibe that i've only ever found in illustrated australian stories and poems. i don't know what it is but i think the rich red-and-orange palettes, and the idea of places feeling so inhabited but so empty all at once, are part of the driving force behind that vibe :thonking:
