I finally colored my pirate treasure artwork! I combined cell-shading with airbrushing and photo textures. All photos I used for the textures were my own, and I might post a couple of them on my stock account.I spent a lot of time trying to decide on the best way to do the shadows and many layers were sacrificed in Photoshop for the task. In the end I found a way of shading that I liked the result of (filling the layer with a shading color, then picking out and removing areas for highlighting).
The curtains and the cave background behind her did have textures and bold colors, but when I added the intense light, all of that became hidden. Originally it wasn't going to be this bright, but I liked it better this way.

This picture has so much detail in it, not just all the money, jewels, lighting and such, but also character and attitude! I was wishing this picture was from a series so I could see more about who this woman is!

Woah. I wish there was a tutorial showing how you made this effect. I have no idea how people manage to get the realistic look in their digital artwork... I get how you did the other version of this picture, but I REALLY love this style

This is spectacular! I agree, you do lose a lot of the background details with the intense lighting, but the contrast it creates is absolutely worth it.
Still boggles my mind how anyone could put so much detail into a single piece. Bravo!

Okay I love everything about this picture, but I absolutly adore that... is it an eyepatch that has an image of a kitty with an eyepatch? I love it. And I am in love with that skull for some reason. It just has such personality for being an inanimate object.

It's hard not to get lazy, which is, oddly enough, what I'm doing right now. Sometimes you just get tired of working on a single project and want to branch out. As such, I'm making my next one quite sloppy on purpose, and hoping to extract some sense of style out of it lol -_-
