I have a question, I am a native American 26 year old female who beads. I'm not sure what style I use is called. I use two needles tacking down every two beads ? I am Chippewa from the turtle mountain band of Chippewa Indians. but I live on a different reservation in Montana. I love beading I am thinking about making custom orders for people so I can make enough to but the beads to make the pieces for my sons outfit. I am wondering if maybe you know the best way I could do this? I thought about making a few things to sell just to get my work out there then maybe I can get some orders, do you know of a good site? I have never sold any of my work just given away to family.

Wish I could help you sweetie but I just took this photo near the Grand Canyon and these were made by the Navajo.  If you look under artisan crafts on DA you might find someone who could help you.  I know people actually offer their crafts for sale on Deviant Art.  I wish you the best of luck.

Are any of those Dream Catchers?

No, don't remember if they had any. I did buy a beautiful Christmas ornament though. It is made of pottery and has a Navajo girl and horsehair design. They actually apply the hair from a horse's tail before firing. It leaves a design behind. I'll have to submit photo.

They had a lot of different items to sell and it looked like three different generations were gathered around.

That's what I like to see - the generations.

Ahh I love native american regalia. Colorful and artistic! Is that yours or just items on display for purchase?

These were items for sale. There was jewelry and pottery also. There was an old woman there dressed in a simple Navajo skirt and I wanted so much to take her photo but she declined. What a wonderful face she had. Her granddaughter was the one that waited on me.

Ah that's a shame. I would have liked to have seen her. One of my many greats uncles was an Indian chief. I wish I knew what tribe it was. If I could find anything on it I certainly would. At least you got to take a picture of the craftsmanship in artistic ability that they have.

I always ask for permission before taking a photo of Native Americans. I took one at a Pow- wow in Ohio where you were allowed to take photos of the dancing and one at the Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico where the woman kindly let me photograph her.

Absolutely. There can be some nasty repercussions from not asking. Indian dancing has always interested me. Their traditions are so much different from ours.

If you ever have the chance, go to a pow-wow. I love the dancing, drumming, singing and the bright colors of their clothing and headdresses. Usually there are crafts and food also.

I certainly will. I'm a member of the Order of the Arrow in Boy Scouts, which is the honor society. It's Indian based, their ceremonies are held around fires and the ones hosting are in the ceremonial Indian garb. There isn't nay dancing, but it's all very cool. Sadly, because of regulations of the order I don't think I can take any pictures.
