Description Gene sat at the edge of the school entrance's top step. Cold wind tousled her hair across her face, and small specks of white landed on her coat.

She lifted her pale hand, and brushed the flakes away. It was useless though as the snow continued to fall on to her dark head.

The sun had gone down a long time ago. The street lights dully giving off a hazy orange light glow, as the cars went by lazily. The traffic lights switched, giving off a red glow that held back a line of tarnish cars that squealed to a stop.

Off from the distance Gene heard a rumble, and a slow smile spread across her lips. Down the street sped a 2007 Lexus GS Hybrid. It slid around the corner in a silver blur. Then with a silent elegance came to a halt.

"Yo! Gene!" Said a familiar face from the driver's side window. He leaned across the passenger seat and smiled, "Get in!"

With the simple demand she stood up, walking down the icy steps. It didn't take her long, but on the way down she slid a few steps. The boy inside the car laughed loudly, "Smooth Genie! Now hurry up, I ain't got all night." He teased and revved his car.

The girl stood on her hurt ankle and took the last few steps to his door. She hesitated a bit before reaching for the handle, but then opened it quickly ready to give in to the warmth of the interior.

As soon as she sat down she could feel the heat seeping through her clothing. She slowly unwrapped her scarf and began to undo the buttons of her coat.

"Hiya, Chaz." She said with a half smile. "Thanks for picking me up."

"Yeah, yeah... What ever." He chuckled and began to play a song that sounded like someone crying and made her want to grind her teeth.

He looked over at her wincing face, "What's wrong? Don't ya like it? It's practically all I ever hear." He said with a dry laugh.
