Been meaning to try something like this for a while. The inspiration for the style came from a piece by one of the artists I follow on Facebook (www.facebook.com/khaoskai?_rdr… - it was a while ago he posted the piece in question I think, but all his art's well worth a look).

I suspect the effect I was aiming for would be easier to produce digitally (the whole layering thing coming into its own there) but I'm just not good enough yet on muro yet. So I produced this using traditional media and 'cheated' by doing the guy on a separate sheet and then gluing him to the background layer. It's an effect I've used before (see my covers for the Orphans Revolt series) and I actually quite like the slightly cartoony feel it adds.

Needless to say this belongs with my other recent musings on 'facing ones demons'.

Our hero here is inspired by a kid I saw on my way into work the other day - had the skinniest legs I'd ever seen, in a pair of spray on skinnys. I've seen stick men with more substance...
