I don't think you need to change anything, but if you wanted to, you could probably accomplish the water/out of water effect with just a harder line on the hair, with a more dramatic color shift from out of water to in water.

You need to add hints of water droplets on her face, mask and hair that have submerged for that effect. That got me confused until I read your description.

I love this ^-^ (hence why I am watching you) I personally love all of your artwork. This one has a really nice flow. (hehe.. it's funny to say that becuase there's water.) I really like when I see drawings which look like things are floating. I guess if we can't tell the head is coming out of water.. i'd make the water look somehow a little more defined. Maybe some more contrast. But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong! (HAH.. me trying to help you. you're godlike ;-; ) composision is nice too ^^v

Personlly, i'm not a fan of 'anime' as such, but i like the abstract composition of the hair in the water. That's what this painting is really... it's a face surrounded by abstract colours and lines. Although i've got to admire the skill in defining the features of the face and mask, and parts of the hair, they seem somewhat predictable, conforming to an artistic style, etc. if i were you (which im not...) i'd split this into two paintings. The left hand side is very abstract expressionist, wheras the right hand side conforms more to the art style. But hey, that's just my opinion
Ok, it's a nice painting in general to me because of the background, and how you've filled the negative space. Well done.
