Thanks, I'm still have trouble with my displacements in photoshop. Lots of distorted images lately. Been starting with +1/-1 and increasing as I go.

Most of mine are -5/+5, but depending on the picture I might also go -7/+7 or even -10/+10...I rarely go higher than that, unless the original is a very high resolution image...on one occasion I even had to go up to -20/+20.

That's interesting, I've never been past 5's with anything. It seems that if I increase the displacement I end up with major distortion near the all the edges of anything that's in the image.
I've been using positive numbers for the cyan/top layer and imaginative numbers for the red/bottom layer. I've even switched these layers from top to bottom and vice versa, but the distortion is the same.
I've never gone into the 20's.
